Hello everyone!

I am a graduate of University of Maryland with a degree in Physics. My educational background also consists of having associate's degrees in Science (Biological Sciences, Mathematics, and Physics) from Montgomery College. I also have had internships at N.I.H. (Biological Science) and at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (Physics with Analytical Chemistry). I aspire to work in the medical field and to teach math & science to underdeveloped and marginalized communities.

I have been tutoring and teaching in academia for over a decade. During high school, I tutored middle school students in math, sciences, and French and as a college student, I have tutored in a variety of subjects and persons with learning disabilities. These include Biology & Chemistry in my college's learning center and as math tutor and TA for the Disability Support Services department and traditional classroom setting respectively.

After graduation, I am teaching elementary school students science and math all while being a tutor on Wyzant. These experiences has allowed me to communicate effectively over a wide age range and demographics.

Mathematics can be tricky in the fact that many students confuse getting the "correct" answer to mean "understanding" the problem. I want students to understand the general concept(s), dissect the question being asked, and then leap into a problem. Can't go into a battle without weapons, I say. This method has helped students complete easier problems and ask more difficult questions on their own. This moves questions from "I don't know how to do this problem" to "What if you do this in the problem" among others. Tutoring in the sciences, I take a similar approach.

I understand the feeling of defeat when all you want to do is throw your binder out the window and watch re-runs of Grey's Anatomy in your pajamas. I always have high hopes that anyone can learn anything with effort and determination.

Like always, stay curious about the world around you!

Study Skills

I have helped students create study skill plans to do better in classes and to effectively use their time wisely along with going to work. I wholeheartedly believe that improving study skills (some of which are habits) will improve one's test scores and grades. I have also read books on how to do better in school/colleges which I have also implemented in my own school/personal life.

Helpful

I received a better understanding with most of the information we went over. I felt better prepared for my chem quiz. Henry was very patient with me. Much more easier to understand.

Was able to help with Algebra

Henry helped my brother with algebra. He was kind and patient and very communicative throughout the entire process. He was willing to make a very long trip to come and see my brother which is very respectable considering that he's a student.

Great!

Henry was great! Very patient and knowledgeable. Wrote down notes and explained things where I could understand them. Would definitely recommend. I will definitely come back and consider online as well in the future.

First time tutoring

This is the first time we've gotten a private tutor and so far my son seems very engaged. Henry is patient with Kenny him. He looks forward to his lessons and I am hopeful he will improve his math grade.
