I am an experienced science educator with 30 years of teaching experience at both the secondary and postsecondary levels. I hold a Master of Science in Natural Sciences (MSNS) and a Bachelor of Science in Education (BSE), both from Delta State University in Mississippi. Throughout my career, I have taught science courses ranging from seventh-grade general science to college-level biology. My college teaching experience includes biology courses at Montgomery College, Hinds Community College, and Holmes Community College. I currently teach Biomedical Sciences at Eastern High School in Washington, D.C., where I also serve as District Course Chair for Biomedical Science and Biotechnology.
My teaching experience encompasses general biology, human anatomy and physiology, genetics, microbiology, and biomedical sciences. At Eastern High School, I teach Project Lead The Way (PLTW) courses, including Principles of Biomedical Science, Medical Interventions, and Biomedical Innovation. I have extensive experience working with students of different ages, academic abilities, and learning styles in traditional classrooms, laboratory settings, and individualized instructional environments. My teaching methods emphasize breaking complex scientific concepts into understandable components, using real-world examples, visual aids, hands-on activities, and problem-based learning.
I believe effective science education goes beyond memorizing facts and vocabulary. My goal is to help students understand scientific concepts, develop critical-thinking skills, and build confidence in their abilities. I use a mastery-based approach that allows students to receive individualized support and progress as they demonstrate understanding. Whether helping a middle school student develop foundational science skills, supporting a high school biology student, or assisting a college student with challenging biological concepts, I strive to make science accessible, engaging, and relevant.
