I am currently serving as a middle school English teacher at a private school in Virginia. My experience includes twenty years as an educator in both upper elementary and middle school classrooms with a particular focus on language arts and curricular development. In 2012, I graduated from The University of Georgia with a Master of Education in English Education with a particular focus on children’s literature and language arts. I also hold an Education Specialist degree in Educational Theory and Practice with an emphasis on instructional strategies and family-school partnerships from The University of Georgia. During the summer of 2024, I continued my studies at the Bread Loaf School of English in the Teaching, Writing, and Acting for Change curricular program taking courses in the creative classroom and transcultural literacies. This summer I participated in Bard College’s Institute for Writing and Thinking week-long workshop focused on teaching and assessing writing.
My teaching and tutoring experience spans kindergarten through college, which has enabled me to work with diverse sets of students, helping to empower them to take control of their own learning and achieve personal educational goals. As a teacher of English Language Arts, I have had the opportunity to focus on both literacy and writing with students of all ages, developing curriculum, implementing new techniques, crafting scope and sequence plans, designing units, and guiding students in finding creative ways to support differences of learning style. I have a strong background in reading and writing workshops, as well. My experience as an educator and years of tutoring have shaped my abilities to work with students from all sorts of classrooms, educational levels, and backgrounds. I look forward to working with you!
