Hello! I’m Helene, and I’m excited to help students build confidence and reach their academic goals. I have been an educator for 22 years and hold a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary/Early Childhood Education and a Master’s degree in Reading Education. I am also a Maryland Advanced Professional Teaching Certificate holder for Grades 1–6. I have been a classroom teacher for 22 years, including the past 10 years teaching fifth grade. Throughout my career, I have worked with elementary-aged students in a variety of learning settings and have tutored students both in person and online.
I have experience teaching reading, writing, math, and social studies, with a particular passion for math and history. I enjoy helping students understand difficult concepts by breaking them into smaller, manageable steps and connecting learning to real-life examples. My tutoring approach is patient, encouraging, and individualized. I believe students learn best when they feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes without feeling discouraged. I take the time to understand each student's strengths and areas of need and adjust my instruction accordingly. Whether your child needs help with homework, reading comprehension, writing, math skills, test preparation, or building confidence, my goal is to make learning both productive and enjoyable. I am also comfortable with online learning platforms such as Google Classroom, Zoom, and Schoology.
