I have 10 years of experience tutoring learners of all ages in writing, English language arts, essay development, reading comprehension, social studies, and government. I hold bachelor’s degrees in Multiplatform Journalism and Government and Politics from the University of Maryland, College Park, as well as a master’s degree in Public Administration and Public Policy from American University. I also earned a Diversity and Inclusion certificate from Cornell University, and I'm currently pursuing a Master of Science in Magazine Publishing at Pace University.

Since 2015, I've worked one-on-one with students to strengthen their writing, comprehension, critical-thinking, research, and organizational skills. My experience includes supporting middle school, high school, and college students with essays, research papers, class assignments, reading responses, presentations, and other academic projects. I adapt each lesson to the student’s age, learning style, current skill level, and immediate academic goals. Rather than simply correcting a student’s work, I use guided questions, clear examples, structured outlines, and step-by-step feedback to help students understand the material and become more independent learners.

In addition to my tutoring experience, I have an extensive professional background in journalism, strategic communications, public affairs, and government. My work has required me to research complex subjects, write and edit for different audiences, organize information clearly, and translate complex information for general audiences. This combination of academic training, professional writing experience, and tutoring allows me to help students develop their skills while communicating their ideas with clarity and confidence.

Approved Subjects

African American Studies

African American Studies

I formally studied African American Studies in college and have maintained a strong personal interest in African American history, culture, politics, literature, and social movements. I help students examine historical events within their broader political and cultural contexts, identify connections across time periods, and thoughtfully engage with the experiences and contributions of Black Americans. I can assist with reading comprehension, class discussions, research, essay development, and evidence-based analysis while encouraging students to approach the subject with curiosity, accuracy, and respect.
Career Development

Career Development

My tutoring experience includes helping students strengthen their resumes and cover letters as they pursue internships, jobs, and other professional opportunities. Drawing on my background in journalism, government, nonprofit advocacy, public affairs, communications, publishing, and sales, I help students identify transferable skills, describe accomplishments effectively, and tailor materials to specific opportunities. My goal is to help each student develop clear, polished application materials that accurately communicate their value and move them closer to their career goals.
Creative Writing

Creative Writing

I have been a creative writer since childhood and formally studied Literary Arts in high school. My writing experience includes fiction, poetry, and children’s books, giving me a broad foundation in storytelling across different forms and audiences. I help students develop original ideas, compelling characters, engaging plots, vivid settings, authentic dialogue, imagery, voice, and theme. Whether a student is completing a school assignment or developing a personal project, I provide encouraging, constructive feedback while helping them preserve their individual style and creative vision.
English

English

My English background includes Honors English, AP English Language & Composition, and AP English Literature & Composition. Through these advanced courses, I developed strong skills in close reading, literary analysis, rhetorical analysis, vocabulary, grammar, and evidence-based writing. I help students interpret challenging texts, understand an author’s choices, organize their ideas, and write clear analytical responses. I tailor my approach to each student’s course level, assignments, and learning goals while helping them become more confident and independent readers and writers.
Government & Politics

Government & Politics

I hold a bachelor’s degree in Government and Politics from the University of Maryland, College Park. I have also worked on Capitol Hill and in the federal government, giving me both academic knowledge and practical experience with American government, public policy, political institutions, and the legislative process. I help students understand complex political concepts, connect classroom material to real-world institutions, analyze primary and secondary sources, and develop evidence-based written arguments. My areas of expertise include American government, Congress, elections, public policy, civic engagement, and political communication.
Personal Statements

Personal Statements

I have extensive experience reviewing and strengthening personal statements and application essays for colleges, internships, scholarships, and other competitive opportunities. I help students identify the experiences, values, goals, and perspectives that make them unique, and then shape those ideas into a focused and compelling narrative. Together, we can work through brainstorming, organization, opening paragraphs, storytelling, transitions, revision, and final proofreading. I also help students clearly explain why an opportunity fits their goals and how they can contribute meaningfully to the school, program, or organization while ensuring the final statement remains authentic to their voice.
Proofreading

Proofreading

Throughout my education and career in journalism, communications, public affairs, and publishing, I have proofread and edited a wide range of materials, including articles, reports, press releases, speeches, presentations, website copy, newsletters, emails, and executive communications. I review writing for grammar, punctuation, spelling, clarity, consistency, sentence structure, tone, and overall readability. I also explain the reasoning behind suggested changes so students can recognize patterns, strengthen their editing skills, and write more effectively.
Writing

Writing

My formal writing education began with Literary Arts coursework in high school, continued through my bachelor’s degree in Multiplatform Journalism, and now includes graduate study in Magazine Publishing. I have also written professionally throughout my career in journalism, communications, public affairs, government, nonprofit advocacy, and publishing. My experience includes academic essays, articles, reports, press materials, speeches, digital content, executive communications, and long-form storytelling. I help students improve their writing from the earliest brainstorming stage through final revision. Depending on the student’s needs, we may work on organization, clarity, argument development, grammar, sentence structure, voice, tone, research, or adapting a piece for a particular audience. My goal is to help students understand not only what to improve, but why—so they can develop a writing process and skills they can use independently.
