I am a native English speaker and have lived many places in the United States. I have a Bachelor's degree in History, but have a general interest in English and especially a love of English grammar, spelling, and vocabulary. I enjoy the challenges and rewards of writing really good papers, emails, and other compositions. As a volunteer tutor, I was impressed by the initiative and efforts of many non-native speakers to learn English. Though I am only fluent in English, one of my favorite experiences was studying Spanish as a foreign language in high school. I recently received my TESOL certification from Regent University.
My tutoring experience is exclusively to ELLs, although I have experience as a substitute teacher in elementary classrooms. I have worked with native and non-native English-speaking college students on grammar and writing. I consider tutoring to be a fun privilege and challenge, especially when the student is motivated. Therefore, I aim to help students connect with the content in a meaningful way. I try to strike a balance between challenging the student and keeping learning fun without frustrating the student. It is my pleasure to be able to encourage and equip any willing student with his or her particular goal(s).
