For the past 13 years I have been a homeschool teacher, teaching all subjects to my children through elementary school into middle school, as well as leading multiple classes for other homeschooled children. These classes have included a readers' workshop for lower elementary school children, a writing class for upper elementary school children, a writing class for middle school children, and book clubs for all ages up to high school, as well as a geography course, hands-on science classes, a current events class, and a science fiction club. I am very comfortable working with children of all ages and enjoy seeking out or creating resources to meet the needs of the children I am teaching.
The thing I love about teaching/tutoring is working with the children and getting to know them. Every kid is different, and I love finding the exact right thing that they need to spark their learning. I like providing individualized instruction to children, because that is something it is difficult to provide in schools and it is often what children having difficulty in school are lacking- an approach that tailors the material directly to them, in a way they can understand it. I love when kids get excited about what they are learning, when they realize that they can understand it and they can excel, given the right learning materials and the right approach. The best part about teaching is seeing a kid excited to keep learning.
