Dear students, my name is Jarod, and I recently earned my Master of Science in Materials Engineering at the University of Southern California. I also earned my Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with a Minor in Chinese Language and Culture, giving me both a strong technical foundation and the ability to communicate concepts clearly and thoughtfully. In undergrad, I was as a Teaching Assistant for a Mechanics of Materials course where I led instruction and helped guide a class of 25 through challenging engineering concepts. This resulted in improved exam performance and confidence across the group. I have also conducted research in both composite materials and thermoelectric materials, which has provided me with hands-on experience in applying theoretical principles to real-world problems. My education and experiences have made me comfortable tutoring subjects such as physics, mathematics (including algebra, trigonometry, precalculus, and calculus), engineering fundamentals, materials science, and CAD/design software like SolidWorks and Autodesk Inventor.
My approach to tutoring is centered around patience and clear explanation. I understand that every student learns differently, so I work to break down complex ideas into manageable steps and adapt my teaching style to fit each learner’s pace and strengths. I tailor our sessions to ensure the material feels meaningful and understandable. Additionally, my experience working in engineering companies and research laboratories allows me to connect academic concepts to practical applications. I enjoy helping students see why the subjects they study matter, and how the skills they are developing can translate into future careers. I look forward to working with you, supporting your academic progress, and helping you feel confident in your learning journey.
