I remember how overwhelming standardized tests felt - until I discovered the right strategies. With help from the right tutor, I was able to gain confidence in my own test-taking strategies, and I began to understand the ins and outs of the ACT. After being ever grateful to the tutor I had, I now hope to share this feeling of relief and help others find their confidence.
My name is Harrison and I scored in the 99th percentile on the ACT and can tutor all sections of this test. My composite score on the ACT was 35/36 (34 Math, 34 Science, 36 English, 36 Reading). I recently graduated from the University of California Santa Barbara with a Bachelor of Science in Biopsychology, and throughout these four years, I logged 1,000+ hours tutoring others. During summers, I would come home and work at my local tutoring service and prepare students for the ACT and SAT, and during my last two years at university, I joined the school's tutoring organization, CLAS, and tutored undergraduates in general chemistry.
As a graduate of Biopsychology with a GPA of 3.8, my tutoring philosophy has come to be centered on three things;
Personalization: it is crucial to understand where my student stands so we can build up weak points and solidify strengths
Comprehension: Instead of simply memorizing, together we will break down problems and come to understand the reasoning behind the answer
Confidence: Arguably the most important, I aim to help students find their confidence, and approach their studying with a positive mindset.
Over the years, I have come to love tutoring for one main reason. Nothing is more rewarding than when a student comes to me with a smiling face and tells me their hard work finally paid off.
