Creative and patient educator with fun ways to motivate kids!

Hi! I am a wife and mother of two teen daughters. I am a recent graduate of Frostburg State University with a Master of Arts in Teaching. I will be a Maryland state certified teacher any day now. I have been a substitute teacher in many of WSPS schools from first grade through high school. Before my change of careers I worked at Hagerstown Children's Theater where I taught and directed musical theater performances. Bottom line is that I love working with kids and finding creative ways to make learning fun.

Before my change of careers I worked as a therapist and counselor with children and adolescents. I have a M.A. in art therapy and I believe in allowing kids learn and grow through creative exploration. I enjoy taking on a good challenge and celebrating accomplishments. I am a lifelong learner and a strong advocate for creativity in education. I would love to help that struggling learner find ways to overcome obstacles and make strides.

I have excellent written and oral communication skills. I have experience in teaching reading (individual and guided reading groups), phonetic awareness using the FUNdations program used in schools, and numerous other reading and writing strategies.

I understand the Common Core curriculum and am familiar with interpreting the standards lingo which can be quite overwhelming for parents! I have planned and implemented countless lessons that are aligned with the common core curriculum.

I will be verified to teach grades 1-6 and will possess a certification to teach Art as well. I plan to incorporate many kinds of art, manipulatives, project based lessons, and iPad apps/technology to help engage struggling learners and make learning fun!
