Bio

I set up victories for my students - by breaking things down into attainable chunks so that my students can taste success, build their confidence, and move on to more challenging work. More than teaching just a subject, I teach my students how to be resilient learners, and how use their teacher feedback for growth. How students feel about math, reading, any academic area will shape how they think - and I work with my students to show them they CAN do anything they put their mind to.

I have worked with children and teenagers from 2nd to 8th grade tutoring in reading, math, study skills, breathwork and goal setting. I love sharing my knowledge and invite my students to help me during my thinking process - then, have the student explain the concepts back to me. This is a great time for critical thinking, asking questions, and taking risks - which leads to my students building a solid foundation and improving their skills.

I encourage my students to think of their math problems as a puzzle and show students how to use various techniques to help them solve word problems,

I am certified in Orton Gillingham techniques and Really Great Reading.
I have had students who told me they hated reading - which surprised me since I am an avid reader. I asked these students to read a sentence or two to me out of a book of their choosing - then showed them strategies to help them be more fluent. Together, we would read slowly, ask questions, and really make the book come to life.

Having good study skills as a student requires the student to think long term, big picture, and I help students reframe their mindset. I help my students see that they are capable of the obstacles in their way, and that every challenge is an opportunity for growing and learning.

I have been body building for the past 11 years, and have been doing yoga for the 6 years. I use a holistic approach for body building and yoga - the muscles in one's body are all connected.

I love helping my students see the best in themselves. I a

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

I've taught algebra over the years since 2012. I see algebra problems as a puzzle and guide students to look for knowns in order to find the unknowns.
Yoga

Yoga

I had a herniated disc from a car accident and used yin yoga to relieve the pain that physical therapists, medication, and chiropractors could not fix. Yin yoga opened the door to power yoga, being more mindful, healthy, compassionate, and overall just having a more holistic approach to life!
