I am a credentialed Spanish teacher and counselor. Spanish is my native language. In addition, I studied in Spain and have traveled to Mexico several times, including once with a group of my students. My goal is not just to meet but exceed your goals of learning Spanish, English or general subjects. I consistently implement targeted immediate and useful strategies and methodologies in order to effectively work with individual styles of learning.

In the course of my varied careers, I have gained practical knowledge and understanding, helping me foster meaningful relationships with my students, their families, as well with the professionals who serve them. One of my strong points is forming authentic regard with my students as this allows me to easily engage and connect meaningfully with them.

Spanish for Everyone! Each hour session will be tailored specifically to your needs. Are you in college and want to earn the best grades? Are you interested in learning Spanish just because you like it, need it for traveling or a job? Do you want to be bilingual? Are you a native speaker needing help with grammar, reading comprehension or writing? I am the person who can help you achieve your goals! Sessions can be held in the comfort of your home, the public library or a quiet cafe. We will practice all needed review of grammatical concepts including conjugations of all verbs: present, present progressive, present, preterit, future, conditional, subjunctive; por/para; saber/conocer; accents and syntax; reading, writing, and speaking, and culture. I have a California Spanish teaching and counseling valid credential and more than 25 years of experience in education.

Study skills knowledge is essential in order to maximize students' natural gifts and succeed not only in school but throughout our life. As a school counselor and teacher, I regularly share study skills tips with my students at every opportunity. Understanding the student's strengths and weaknesses is an essential part, bearing in mind that we are all unique and we don't learn with traditional approaches. After our first session, I will be able to share tailor-made lessons highlighting the importance of practicing study skills which will be practical to you in particular or your child. We will practice and understand the importance of several skills such as time management , maintaining strong organizational skills that are comfortable to the student and practicing a variety of test taking strategies, including flash cards, mnemonics, music, Cornell note taking methods, among others. These skills will prove not only valuable now but for a life time, as we use these skills consistently throughout our lives in our daily lives, at the job, and with many of our endeavors. I look forward to working with you and showing you how you can tackle seemingly tough areas like never before. Empower yourself with practicing these practical skills.

I have a Master'degree in Educational Psychology, which required a variety of writing skills, including analytical, technical. Throughout my parenting, teaching, and tutoring career I have successfully helped high school and university students improve their writing skills and feel significantly more comfortable when given a writing assignment.

Very expert and good-humored

Mayra has had several tutoring sessions with our son and has really helped this frustrated teen catch up finally! Complete language immersion isn't right for everyone and Mayra understands this. She takes him through vocab and translations patiently, helps with grammar and engages him in correct conversation, while never making him feel inadequate. Great Spanish Tutor!

A positive experience

Mayra G. has been a wonderful tutor for our son. She is his tutor for high school Spanish II and recently began helping him with organizational skills. Mayra is patient and positive. She brings supplemental materials as well as reviews work provided by his teacher and the textbook. When we provide feedback or comments from the teacher, she uses that information and addresses the concerns immediately. She is prompt and friendly. Our son truly enjoys his time with Mayra G. and his attitude towards succeeding in this class has improved greatly. In addition, the organizational advice, although a new addition to the tutoring, has helped him, too!
