My teaching style consists of using many visuals and applications of the computer science concepts being taught so that the student can conceptually understand it and apply it to any problems. I like to do a lot of practice on different types of problems with the students so that they can really understand all the aspects of a concept. Once the students understand the concepts well, I go through quick and efficient ways to solve them with different math tricks. I will stay on the same topic until the student fully understands it, so the pace will be set by the student. I will also give practice worksheets for the students to attempt, and I'll go over them in the next session. In an online environment, I'll be able to walk students through examples and concepts by sharing my iPad screen and showing my work there. The main thing that sets me apart from other tutors is that I genuinely love teaching other students so that I can spark their interest in these growing STEM fields. I want them to leave my classes wanting to know more, and I love when students come back to me with projects they started to do on their own or concepts they are trying to learn beyond what I taught them. My goal is for students to truly conceptually understand the basics of these concepts so that they are prepared for harder concepts later in life.
I have been teaching math, reading, and writing for the Varsity Tutors company for nearly a year, teaching nearly 40 different children all over the world and helping with school classes. Additionally, during the COVID-19 pandemic, three of my colleagues and I created a Computer Logic and Basic Algorithmic Data Structure Class for interested computer science students in middle school and high school. We created a full curriculum with interactive slideshows, example problems, and worksheets that went over concepts like propositional logic, probability, circuit diagrams, and basic algorithms. Over the course of two summers, we gained over 120 students who left shining reviews about our content.
