About Tracey

Are you or your student dreading taking the SATs? Avoiding reading the assigned novel for English class? Unsure of the best way to organize and complete homework, school assignments and projects? I can help.

I worked as a professional tutor and instructor at a well-respected independent learning center in Frederick, MD, for over three years and am excited to be helping students and families again.

I work with elementary through high school age students to help them succeed and earn higher grades in a variety of subjects including SAT test prep, literature, writing and grammar, and elementary math through algebra 2. I can also help you or your child study better and learn faster with more efficient study skills.

I know what the best strategies and resources in each of my subject areas are, but I also know that one prescribed method won't help every student because each student is unique and has different learning styles and strengths. Each session will be tailored to suit how you or your child learns best and what will help him or her gain the most academic achievement in the shortest amount of time. I'm not afraid to try new techniques or to think outside the box to discover what works best for the student. Let my expertise and knowledge help you or your student to do better and begin to enjoy learning.

I am a member of MENSA. I live in a smoke-free home but am comfortable tutoring in smoking and pet-friendly homes.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

College Counseling

I have helped many students through the college application process, including assisting with the college search, selecting schools to apply to, working on college applications, developing an application timeline, editing college application essays and generally managing the application process. Students I have worked with have gone on to attend schools such as Oberlin, Georgetown, and Boston College.

Elementary (K-6th)

As the Assistant Director of Afterschool Programs at Mindworks Learning Institute from 2005 to 2008 I have worked with students as young as five years old to help them improve their communication, reading, writing, and math skills.

When working with elementary school students I always try to incorporate something fun yet challenging into each tutoring session to help them see how learning can be exciting instead of dull and boring. By getting your elementary school student excited about going to school and learning new things it sets him or her up for future success in middle and high school.

Just as with older students, each elementary school student is unique and has different learning styles. My five plus years of experience working with a diverse group of students has given me the experience and expertise needed to tailor my tutoring sessions to best suit your young child's needs and learning styles and I have many different techniques and methods to make even the most challenging concepts more accessible for elementary aged students.

Let my enthusiasm, experience, and expertise help your child discover how fun learning can be.

Study Skills

I helped write and develop the study skills curriculum at Mindworks Learning Institute when I was the Assistant Director of Afterschool Programs from 2005 through 2008. I have experience helping students in the 4th through 12th grade improve their study skills, test taking abilities, and organizational skills. Even when tutoring in other subjects I make sure my students are using the best study skills strategies to maximize their tutoring and learning experience.

If you or your student has a messy locker, disorganized binders, or a backpack crammed full of crumpled papers, I can help. If you or your student completes the homework on time but then can't find it to turn it in, I can help. If you or your student took notes in class but now can't find them to study for the final exam, I can help. Finally, if you or your student needs help getting organized for a science fair project or term paper, I can help.

Let my knowledge and expertise help you improve your study skills, earn higher grades on tests, and alleviate the frustration of not being able to find that really important piece of paper you're looking for.

Exceptionally patient, positive, and knowledgeable tutor who engages students!

Tracey has done exceptional work with my 17-year-old son to prepare him for the SAT. She is knowledgeable regarding all of the SAT subject areas and really knows the test. Perhaps the best thing about Tracey has been her ability to engage my son, who can be defiant with me. He is completely focused when he works with Tracey, however, and his SAT scores have increased significantly -- beyond our
