I started tutoring chemistry as a work study student in 1975 (freshman). Graduated in 1979, BA major chemistry, minor math. Taught all 4 years. Continued teaching as a part-time instructor while working as an analytical chemist. I resigned my position after eight years to enter graduate school (U of Colorado, Boulder) in 1986, graduated PhD in inorganic chemistry 1990. Graduate work involved organometallic synthesis to investigate catalytic properties. I taught honors chemistry my first year and tutored on the side. Accepted a teaching position at Western WY College in Rock Springs, WY. I left after eight years and accepted a senior research position at Pacific Northwest National Lab, Richland WA. I worked there for twenty years. Accepted a research lab management position with Ideal Innovations Inc. in Arlington VA. I continued tutoring chemistry students throughout all those years. I retired in 2024 and continue to tutor students online. I have about 150 publications (peer reviewed).
Although I enjoy research, I enjoy teaching much more. Over the many years of teaching/tutoring, I have received many letters, emails, and text messages from students thanking me for my help. The accomplishments of my former students and their gratitude is the greatest reward one can receive in any career.
