Facilitating curiosity and understanding of concepts is my joy and passion. Old Dominion University is my alma mater. I attended ODU and earned a master's degree in the Science of Elementary Education, Pre-K - 6th grade. I learned about different subjects and their pedagogy techniques, in addition to the development of children from a variety of lenses. While teaching in Fairfax County and Prince William County Public Schools for a combination of 10 years, I have attended and participated in over 100 professional learning courses. I have been trained in teaching gifted students, ELL students, and students with special education needs. I have also been trained in co-teaching, cultural competence, Leader In Me (7 Habits of Successful People), classroom behavioral strategies, guided math, guided reading, history teaching strategies, 5E science teaching strategies, and a plethora of other techniques. In addition, I have sought out additional training by other entities to further strengthen my skills and knowledge as a teacher, such as my certificates in the Orton-Gillingham approach by IMSE. I'm a lifelong learner.

I have taught 5th, 3rd, 4th, and 1st grade. I am experienced with teaching and developing students from a variety of backgrounds, including but not limited to students who need Special Education services (autism spectrum, ADHD, Emotional Disability, specific learning disabilities, etc.), English Language Learner students, gifted students, and students who are living in poverty, all with a difference in personalities and interests. I am passionate about being a facilitator in the learning process, rather than teaching students to regurgitate information back to me. I believe children deserve to understand what they are being taught and why. Students should have ownership over their learning.

I have tutored students in small groups and one-on-one in person at school, and online (COVID). I have tutored 1st, 3rd and 5th graders, and a couple of middle schoolers, needing remediation and/or extensions.
