I love teaching students to see problems from a different perspective. I graduated high school a year early, so I lived in Mexico for six months. There I started to teach English, and learned how much I didn’t know about teaching. After graduating cum laude from Towson University’s teaching program in 2010, I completed my teaching certificate and began substitute teaching in public schools in my area. I have worked with students from Kindergarten through High School, but I especially enjoyed tutoring at-risk elementary age children. Over the past decade of teaching students I have enjoyed watching struggling students grow into eager learners. Finding connections with the students’ existing interests and drawing similarities to what we are studying is something I do naturally in my teaching. I have used Pokemon to teach math and Roblox to explain social studies. By approaching the content with a variety of examples, I review the same material several times, allowing them to absorb the concept in multiple forms allowing them to be memorized more successfully. All students need love and support and patience as they navigate the challenge of school. I really enjoyed using my teaching degree to help students feel more confident.
I'm excited to return to offering teaching beyond my own home and friends with the Wyzant platform. All students need love and support and patience as they navigate their challenge of school. I strive to encourage the fainthearted, support the weak, admonish the time wasting, and be patient with them all.
