Hi there, I'm Andrew! I hold a Ph.D. in Biological Sciences, along with an M.S. and a B.S. in Biology (with a chemistry minor). I have a wide range of research, mentoring, and teaching experience spanning molecular genetics, zoology, evolutionary biology, marine biology, and comparative anatomy and physiology. Teaching has been part of my life for close to twenty years, in a variety of settings. For nearly two decades I worked in animal care and science communication at a public aquarium, where I got to help visitors of every age, from curious kids to retirees, fall a little more in love with the natural world. That experience taught me how to make big concepts click for people, no matter their background. I've also taught general biology, human biology, and anatomy & physiology at both community colleges and four-year institutions, working with everyone from traditional undergrads to adults returning to school after years away. I genuinely enjoy that variety, and I've learned a lot from it.
My approach to tutoring is simple: I want you to actually understand the material, not just survive it. I ask a lot of questions early on to find out where things start feeling confusing, then we rebuild from there together, using examples and comparisons that connect to what you already know. This tends to work especially well in anatomy and physiology, where it's easy to get buried in vocabulary and lose sight of the bigger picture of how everything fits together.
