My name is Truth Hall, and I'm a certified mathematics educator with over 20 years of classroom experience in Washington, D.C. and Maryland. I hold a Praxis Middle School Mathematics certification (5164) as well as Praxis certifications in Principles of Learning and Teaching. This school year, I was honored to be selected as one of eight educators across Washington, D.C. for EmpowerK12's inaugural BrightSpot Fellowship — a competitive recognition based on demonstrated student achievement and measurable academic growth.
I specialize in middle school mathematics and history for students in grades 4 through 9, and I currently teach high school Geometry, so I'm equally comfortable supporting students working through foundational concepts or tackling more advanced material. My approach is personal and data-driven — I start by identifying exactly where a student is struggling, then build targeted lessons around their specific gaps and learning style. I've used this method in one-on-one sessions, after-school tutoring programs, and full classroom settings, helping students achieve a 15% increase in standardized math scores at one school alone.
I also offer chess instruction as a unique complement to academic tutoring. I've coached Chess Club at every school I've taught, using the game as a hands-on vehicle for building critical thinking, patience, and strategic reasoning — skills that transfer directly to the classroom.
