Bio

I hold a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Acting, and minored in Spanish. I believe that any subject can be mastered once confidence and a desire to learn have been formed, so I focus just as much on how the person feels about the subject as I do on the subject material itself.

I hold a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Acting, and minored in Spanish. I believe that any subject can be mastered once confidence and a desire to learn have been formed, so I focus just as much on how the person feels about the subject as I do on the subject material itself.

Spanish: Whether I bring my own material or work solely with the text the student has received in class, my goal is to discover the way that the student learns best, then to present the work accordingly. I can help with identifying patterns for students who have more analytical minds, and presenting playacting situations for students who need a more personal approach.

English: I tend to address grammar, spelling, writing and reading at the same time, depending upon the comprehension level and needs of the student. It's helpful for me to have any notes concerning challenges the student has encountered either from the student themself or from the teacher. Using those, I can zero in on whatever foundation of understanding might need strengthening. I tend to generate my own practice material to accomplish this, but can work with materials provided by the teacher wherever that's preferred.

Theatre (acting): I can work with either improvisation or scripted work, but where text is available, I focus heavily on analysis. I was trained in suzuki, a physical methodology, as well as the "magic if" of Stanislavski. While I do work with some personal sourcing, I neither support nor work with Method acting, which is absolutely not what Stanislavski himself ever taught (Method acting was taught by Lee Strasberg).

Approved Subjects

English

English

I can focus on sentence structure, grammar, vocabulary, and comprehension. I prefer to use the material that is being worked with in class, but can integrate outside material in order to reinforce that which is being taught in class.
Reading

Reading

I can help with sight word recognition as well as phonetics. Outside material will be integrated in each lesson, so that the student has the opportunity to hone their skill with contemporary literature, newspapers and informational websites.
Spanish

Spanish

I tend to teach with an eye single to communication. My goal is to enable the student not only to read and write enough Spanish to pass an upcoming test, but to speak and comprehend enough Spanish to initiate and maintain an intermediate level conversation. To achieve this, I go beyond text book Spanish and integrate literature as well as visual media, attempting partial immersion in order to produce more satisfying results.
Theater

Theater

I first became interested in performing arts, acting specifically, in my junior year in high school. Accordingly, I applied to the performing arts shop of Warren County Technical School, and was educated there for two years. I graduated from high school and decided to attend C.W. Post of Long Island University. I pursued and obtained my BFA in theatre with an acting concentration. I was part of the honors society, and completed a thesis concerning dramaturgy in the United States. I am currently working in technical theatre, most often as a stage manager.
Vocabulary

Vocabulary

Comprehension is greatly hampered when one is not aware of the meaning of the words that are read. I can work with students in both languages to discover the linguistic roots of words in order to facilitate growth in the student's personal lexicon. Familiarity with Latin, Greek or French roots can be especially useful for students preparing to take standardized tests.

Fun tutor

Lynda was about to get my 8 year old engaged in reading. He usually doesn’t like anything to do with it however she was able to get him reading! Highly recommend!

Very thorough spanish tutor

My daughter had about 6-7 lessons with Lynda so far. I waited until my daughter had enough lessons with Lynda so that i could provide a fair review. She is a very good, detailed, and intelligent tutor. My 10 yr old daughter really enjoys her. She said that she's funny, matches her energy & she feels like she's actually learning. Lynda started out by teaching her the basics of Spanish like verbs, pronouns, adjectives, etc and how you use a word in certain tense. I mean, she's VERYYYY detailed & I love it. My goal is for my daughter to eventually be fluent in Spanish. By the time she enters high school & takes Spanish. I'm hoping by then, Spanish will be a breeze to my daughter. With Lynda as her tutor, I have high confidence that she's on the right path to eventually being fluent.

The best tutor ever......Lynda the Best!!!!

My son started doing reading lessons with Lynda a couple of weeks ago. Noah's a busy bee. He doesn't wanna sit and do his work. That is the reason why I have to get Lynda's help. In the first lesson, Noah liked his teacher very much. She's patient, knowledgeable, funny 😄 and manages to keep his full attention to the lesson. She's well prepared for lesson plans, gives her 100% for the class, and makes sure he doesn't get distracted. Thank you so much, Lynda. I highly recommend her!!!!!

KNOWLEDGEABLE

My child was told he could understand some ways to easily remember his vocabulary and some grammar challenges he was taught to place them. He was taught some of these ways, and he enjoyed the class.

Simply Excellent

Eda just started assisting my 7th grade son with his Spanish I course. At the outset, she was professional, personable, and very patient with him. After the second meeting, Eda explained to me my son's strengths and weaknesses, and proposed an action plan to help him get up to speed in his class. I would highly recommend her! She is a gem!
