As a calculus, linear algebra, and precalculus instructor at Georgia Tech and the University of Georgia, I saw the problems most students face on a daily basis. Too often in math, the student tries to memorize a technique rather than understand and comprehend it. Math is a foundational subject -- each area must be learned and understood before proceeding to the next. Just like building a house, if there are gaps in the foundation, i.e. understanding in the earlier subjects, then the rest of the house, that is the comprehension of higher subjects, will be very shaky.

Math has always been a lifelong love and talent of mine. I competed in national math competitions (ARML) in high school, and I now have a Ph.D. in Mathematics, as well as a Masters degree in Operations Research.). Further, I have several years of experience teaching and tutoring math in the classroom and one-on-one. My education is broad, however, as I also have a law degree and practiced law for many years in New York and Georgia. My teaching and legal experience have greatly enhanced my ability to communicate with students to help them decipher what is, to them, a foreign language -- the terms and symbols of mathematics.

It is very important for me to see my students succeed. Math is so critical in many different career paths, so it can be crucial that students effectively use it in order to flourish. Every student is different, and I work hard to find whatever works for that person. In working with my students, I do more than just teach them the so-called "tricks" of math. Instead, I work towards helping them see the bigger picture. With greater understanding, they can work better on their own.

I have worked as a senior data scientist in the financial, insurance, and legal sectors for 8 years. I primarily work in Python and specialize in Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, and Data Analysis.
Linear Algebra

Linear Algebra

I have been teaching linear algebra at Georgia Tech for the past 5 years. It is one of my favorite courses to teach, and I try to impart some of the basic theory behind it, so that it is more than just tedious computations but a logical and beautiful system.
Precalculus

Precalculus

I have earned a PhD in Mathematics with nine years of teaching and tutoring experience. And I am currently working as a research mathematician.

Great tutor

My son is taking AP Calc. He was warned by his previous teacher that it would be over his head and he would not have the foundation but he thought he could do it. Turns out she was right and he was failing miserably. We signed him up with Craig and the results have been dramatic. My son is excelling after just a few lessons. Not only has Craig provided the foundation to allow my son to catch up but he is teaching math in a way that allows my son to truly understand it. It clearly is not about memorization. Craig and my son work on the lesson plans together, basically Craig providing the support for the current course work, plus spending time on the areas Craig feels he needs extra help. And Craig has also worked with my son on test taking skills emphasizing the need to slow down and take his time to avoid mistakes. And obviously there is a good rapport otherwise my son would not be responding to the help. Since working with Craig, my son consistently brings home A's; his failing grade will now be a solid B at the end of the semester; and his math teacher wants to know who this "new" student is.

Professional and patient

My son who is a HS senior was having trouble studying for an AP calculus exam Craig made himself available on very short notice and they worked together almost 3 hours , thank you Craig. I'll let you know how he does !

Great tutor!

Craig helped my daughter overcome her anxiety about her Algebra-Trig class. He presented the material to her in a way she could understand. That help improved her overall grade from a high C to an A. A great confidence boost. Craig also responds quickly by email. He comes highly recommended.

Excellent Tutor for both my children

My son, a student at SPSU, first worked with Craig last summer to prep for a difficult Math final. He described Craig's style as being well suited for him. Instead of showing my son how to do a problem right away, he had him solve a few problems and Craig watched so he could see how my son's mind approached the problems. Then Craig explained to my son a more big picture approach that gave him the background to help understand why the problems would be solved that way. Craig has continued to work with Roy this semester in his Calculus course and we intend to continue with Craig until my son is finished with his Math requirements. In calculus, Craig continues to focus on the big picture and how the problems fit into it. We next called Craig to meet with my daughter once a week to assist her with the Advanced Algebra Trig course she is taking as a senior. I guess you can see both my children have a weakness in higher mathematics. Craig has been a big help to them and we are happy to work around his teaching schedule to allow our children to work with him. I believe he is patient and thoughtful as he works with the students. I highly recommend him to anyone. He and I communicate via email and that has worked out beautifully, even when one of us needs to make a change of schedule within a few hours of the schedule session.

Great to work with

Craig has definitely begun to make pre-calculus much easier to understand for my daughter. Thank you!

Craig combines clear and precise instruction with good interpersonal skills.

Craig combines clear and precise instruction with good interpersonal skills. Craig started the session by asking the student what topics she wanted to cover and proceeded to provide clear and precise coverage of the material. He tested comprehension as they moved through the problems. The student indicated the session was very productive. Since the tutoring sessions are for the sole purpose of improving her score on the math section of the SAT we should be able to provide numerical feedback on the overall effectiveness of the tutoring sessions following the exam.
