Hi! My name is Mordecai, and I’m an academic tutor who works with elementary and middle school students in math, reading, and foundational science. I support students who may be struggling with confidence, feeling overwhelmed by schoolwork, or needing clearer explanations to truly understand what they’re learning. My goal is to help students strengthen their skills while also building confidence and independence in the classroom.

I hold a Bachelor of Science in Finance and Accounting from Bucknell University, and I completed advanced academic training in math and science through Baltimore Polytechnic Institure Ingenuity Program, a selective STEM enrichment program. Over the years, I’ve worked with students across elementary, middle, and high school levels through one-on-one tutoring, small-group instruction, and structured mentoring programs. While I’m new to the Wyzant platform, I bring several years of hands-on tutoring and youth mentoring experience working directly with students and families.

My teaching approach is patient, structured, and adaptable. I take time to understand how each student learns best and adjust my instruction accordingly, whether that means visual explanations, step-by-step guidance, repetition, or real-world examples. I focus on breaking concepts down into clear, manageable pieces so learning feels approachable rather than stressful. I also emphasize strong study habits, organization, and problem-solving skills to help students become more confident and independent learners over time. Fee free to ask me any questions about my background or academics and I’d be more than happy to answer!

Career Development

I support students in developing strong academic and career readiness skills through structured guidance, goal setting, and individualized support. My experience includes mentoring middle and high school students in study habits, organization, time management, and building confidence in academic decision-making. In addition to tutoring, I bring professional experience that reinforces clear communication, reliability, and a structured approach to goal setting, which I incorporate into my work with students. My focus is on helping students gain clarity, independence, and practical skills they can carry into high school, college, and beyond.
