Greetings! I’m Brandon, a veteran Linux Systems Engineer with over a decade of enterprise IT experience and more than 25 years working with Linux. I hold a Master’s in Information Systems Engineering (Information Assurance/Cybersecurity) from Johns Hopkins University. I’m an active Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) and a vetted Red Hat Certified Instructor (RHCI).

Education has been part of my career from day one. I began as a one-on-one middle and high school math tutor at a small, family-owned company. Later, I worked on databases at the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth (CTY). After completing my master’s program, I joined UMBC Training Centers as a Systems Engineer and then IT Manager, where I also taught several courses to adult learners.

More recently, I spent a year pursuing entrepreneurial ventures: I presented at a pitch competition, co-led a workshop, and gave three talks at Southeast Linux Fest. Now, as a Senior Technologist and Field Engineer at a local cybersecurity firm, I deliver virtual pre-sales demos and both in-person and virtual hands-on training for our wireless intrusion detection system. My methods rely on real world examples, with plenty of hands-on demos and practice labs.

I tutor the following subjects: Linux, Information Technology, General Computer Skills, and Cybersecurity. I also specialize in RHCSA and RHCE exam preparation, tailoring each session to your certification goals.

Reach out so we can sharpen your command-line fluency, solidify your cybersecurity fundamentals, and ensure you enter the exam room with confidence. Let’s turn those study hours into a certification success story!

Cybersecurity

I’m a security focused IT professional who brings real-world security expertise to every tutoring session. In my career, I've designed and rebuilt a training facility’s entire network on Ubiquiti switches and pfSense firewalls, implementing multilayer VLAN segmentation and advanced access controls to isolate sensitive resources. I've run site surveys and deployed wireless intrusion detection systems to protect energy and military installations. From cabling closets to edge routers, I understand networking from the OS level up to the perimeter—and how each layer impacts security. On the Linux side, I architect hardened infrastructures using Ansible, Git, and Bash to automate secure deployments across virtual machines, containers, and physical hosts. I've deployed full racks of gear in data centers, applied security baselines, written playbooks for automated patching and configuration auditing, and utilized monitoring solutions to spot anomalies before they become incidents. As a Red Hat Certified Instructor, I’ve led RHCSA and RHCE courses covering system configuration, security best practices, and troubleshooting techniques. I tailor my lessons with practical real-world scenarios to ensure students build skills they'll actually use. I'm a life-long learner and love to share my knowledge through tutoring and exam prep, product demos, workshops, and presentations. I hold a Master’s in Information Systems Engineering (Information Assurance/Cybersecurity) from Johns Hopkins University.

Information Technology

I'm a versatile IT professional with experience from cabling rooms and deploying wireless access points to running an IT department for 50 staff and hundreds of students. I design and secure Linux infrastructures, leveraging Ansible, Git, Bash, and virtualization and container platforms to automate deployments and configurations. I've deployed full racks of networking gear, conducted wireless intrusion detection site surveys, and built both physical and virtual classroom environments. I'm a life-long learner and love to share my knowledge through tutoring and exam prep, product demos, workshops, and presentations. I hold a Master’s in Information Systems Engineering (Information Assurance/Cybersecurity) from Johns Hopkins University.

Linux

I've been using Linux since the early days, originally as a hobbyist, and I've since grown a career with 10+ years of Linux expertise in various roles. I architect and automate Linux infrastructure, leveraging Bash scripting and configuration management tools like Ansible. As a Red Hat Certified Instructor, I hold my RHCSA and RHCE and have shown that I can teach these courses covering system configuration, security, and troubleshooting. I tailor my lessons with practical real-world scenarios to ensure students build career ready Linux administration skills.

Networking (Computer)

I'm a versatile IT professional with experience from cabling rooms and deploying wireless access points to running an IT department for 50 staff and hundreds of students. I have experience with networking from the OS level to the edge. I designed and rebuilt the network infrastructure for a training facility on Ubiquiti switches and pfSense firewalls, including moderately complicated VLAN segmentation. I also design and secure Linux infrastructures, leveraging Ansible, Git, Bash, and virtualization and container platforms to automate deployments and configurations, including those for physical and virtual networks. I've deployed full racks of networking gear, conducted site surveys for a wireless intrusion detection system, and built the infrastructure for classroom environments. I'm a life-long learner and love to share my knowledge through tutoring and exam prep, product demos, workshops, and presentations.
