With over nine years of teaching and tutoring experience, I help high school and college students succeed in chemistry and math, including high school chemistry, AP Chemistry, and General Chemistry and Algebra I and II, Geometry, and Precalculus. I spent six years as a professor at the University of Maryland where I taught introductory chemistry for engineering majors and physical chemistry courses for chemistry and biochemistry majors. My favorite part of teaching was holding office hours, where I worked one-on-one and in small groups. It was especially rewarding to see students gain confidence, build their skills, and improve their grades over the course of the semester. I continue tutoring because I enjoy helping students deepen their understanding of math and chemistry and achieve their academic goals.
I also have experience and training in high school education. Before graduate school, I obtained a B.S. in Chemistry Education (Grades 7-12) and completed my student teaching requirement in a high school and middle school. During my undergraduate years, I spent two years tutoring a range of high school subjects at a school-based tutoring center. These experiences taught me how to adapt my teaching style to students with different learning needs and backgrounds.
I later earned a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry, and I worked as both a teaching assistant and a research mentor for undergraduate students. Before joining the University of Maryland faculty, I completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the National Institute of Standards and Technology.
I will adapt each lesson to your needs, whether that means reviewing difficult concepts from lecture, working through practice problems, preparing for exams, or refining a lab report. My goal is to help you build a deeper understanding of math or chemistry that will serve you throughout your course. I look forward to helping you achieve your academic goals.
