About Angela

Bio

I have been a teacher since 1986. I have taught all subjects in 3rd and 5th grades for 10 years. I taught middle school religion, math, social studies, and music for the past 17 years. I enjoy working with children and love to see them excel in their studies. I believe positive reinforcement helps them to build the confidence they need to be successful in their academic endeavors. I believe in using a variety of methods to help children meet their academic goals.

For the past 16 years, from September to December, I taught an after-school class to prepare my 8th Graders for the HSPT Exam. My focus was primarily on the layout of the test and the Mathematics & Quantitative Sections. I informed my students of ways to improve their results and administered the practice tests.

From 1986 - 1996, I taught grades 3 & 5, all subjects. I had 3 reading groups and two math groups, science, social studies, spelling, English, and religion each day with my students. I am certified in the state of Maryland to teach Grades 1-6 and Middle School.

Social Studies

Social Studies

I have taught Social Studies for 22 years - 8 years in grade 3, 2 years in grade 5, and 12 years in Middle School. I have taught World Cultures, Maryland History, Government, and American History. I have given many projects over the years to my students to help them learn in various ways - painting the "Trail of Tears", making videos, performing skits, dressing up in outfits depicting the time being studied - these are just a few examples of how I allowed the students to learn Social Studies in creative ways that allowed them to use their various learning styles.
Study Skills

Study Skills

I have taught summer school courses in Math and Study Skills for 20 years. In my Study Skills course I taught my children how to take various tests and how to prepare for them. I also gave note-taking tips, reading activities to find pertinent information, and outlining information - just to name a few of the areas covered. Organizational Skills were also taught because it is so important in helping children to build good study habits.

Angela is Wonderful

Our 14 year old grandson had been struggling to get his homework turned in. We were fearful that he might fail the 8th grade. He seemed completely defeated and unwilling to try. Miss Angie has been an answer to our prayers. After Just a few tutoring sessions, our grandson has shown remarkable improvements in both his attitude and motivation to turn his work in. We are beyond grateful for all Miss Angie is doing to give our grandson the tools he needs to find success.

Angela has helped our grandson through a very difficult situation. When we first started working with Angela, our grandson was set back by covid, among other issues. Things seemed somewhat hopeless, but here we are a few months later, and he is going through 8th grade to start high school next year.
