Melissa B. is an Emmy and Edward R. Murrow Award-winning journalist and the author of numerous short stories–including an upcoming new collection. She has helped students with college essay work both virtually and in person in the Washington DC area for several years. She prides herself utilizing her journalism background and a strategic approach to help students craft essays that are compelling and highlight their strengths in multiple areas.
Melissa has worked as a producer and executive producer at MSNBC and ABC News affiliates in Seattle and Washington, D.C. She has a B.A. in History from Duke University. and has a master’s degree from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University. She is currently obtaining a second master’s degree in Creative Writing at Johns Hopkins University. She has taught many creative writing and nonfiction essay workshops.
Melissa enjoys teaching personal essays and helping students to communicate thoughtfully and creatively about their life experiences. Also, Melissa’s three college-aged children are Green Apple alumni!
