My educational background includes a Bachelor’s degree in Geography (University of Maryland, Baltimore County, 1981) as well as a Master’s Degree in Geography and Anthropology from Louisiana State University (1985). I also have a post-baccalaureate degree in Instructional St\ystems Design from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (1988).

I recently retired after 35 years as a full Professor and Program Director of the Geospatial Applications Program at the Community College of Baltimore County (CCBC) Where I developed the the skills and experience to teach/tutor students at the post-secondary/college level. My teaching style has always been student-centered based on using real-world examples to provide them with the real-world skills and experience they need to be successful problem-solvers.

During my 35 year career I developed and delivered comprehensive instruction and professional workshops (both face-to-face and online) covering topics including database design, data collection/integration and validation, metadata formats and requirements, geospatial data formats, analytical techniques, cartographic production, and remote sensing and GPS. I have taught courses including Introduction to GIS, Intermediate GIS, Advanced GIS, Problem Solving Using GIS, Remote Sensing and GPS, as well as courses in Physical and Cultural Geography, Earth Science, and Meteorology.

I have extensive experience providing technical support on downloading, installing, and licensing state-of-the-market GIS software, creating and managing online user accounts, as well as working with open-source software packages (QGIS, GRASS, etc.) and applications (MapBox, Carto, uDIG, OpenStreetMap, Google Earth Pro, etc.
