I am an undergraduate student at the University of Maryland with a strong passion for helping students build confidence and succeed academically. I have several years of tutoring experience through Kumon, where I worked with elementary, middle, and high school students in a structured learning environment. In this role, I provided individualized, one-on-one support in math and reading, helping students strengthen foundational skills and improve their problem-solving abilities. Working with students across a wide range of ages and skill levels taught me how to adapt my teaching style to meet each student’s unique learning needs.
My tutoring approach focuses on understanding rather than memorization. I believe students learn best when they understand the “why” behind a concept, so I break down material step by step and use guiding questions to encourage critical thinking. I pay close attention to where a student may be struggling and adjust my explanations accordingly, whether that means slowing down, using examples, or revisiting foundational concepts. I aim to make learning feel approachable rather than overwhelming.
Overall, I work to create a supportive and encouraging environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. I understand that confidence plays a huge role in academic success, and I work to help students feel capable and motivated as they learn. My goal as a tutor is not only to help students improve their academic performance, but also to help them develop skills and confidence that will benefit them long after our sessions end.
