About Raissa

I have extensive experience introducing and instructing a wide range of mathematics and science coursework in effective and creative ways. I started tutoring when I was in high school. I began as an assistant for my father, who is a high school math teacher. He would entrust me with the students that didn't require much work and I would tutor them and report the progress back to him. But soon I was able to start conducting private English, biology and math sessions for students in elementary through high school and adults who had been away from school for a while.

After my first semester of college, I was hired as a tutor by the math department, and began with Algebra and Precalculus. Later I moved up to tutoring Calculus through Differential Equations, and have been doing so for the past 3 years. In addition to that, I tutor chemistry and do SAT and GED prep. A majority of my experience is in working with undergraduate and non-traditional students but my private lessons have consisted of elementary through high school. My favorite part about tutoring is being able to present a foreign concept to students in ways that they can easily understand and watching them master the material.

My success with students comes from the fact that I customize my sessions and approach according to the student. I like to be very patient with students and pay close attention to how they learn. So I have become very intuitive on the methods and techniques that are effective for each student. I make sure to focus on the source of the problem in understanding and work from there.

Recurring and semester rates are negotiable. If you are interested in scheduling a lesson, don’t hesitate to message me and I will respond to you as soon as possible!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
