****************************************************************************

Hello there! My name is Molly, and I tutor privately in the Bowie, Maryland, area. I work with children and adults from the first grade level to the ninth grade level. I work in most subject areas, especially MATH and READING. Tutoring is my profession, not a side job.

*****************************************************************************
I AM NOT YOUR AVERAGE TUTOR.
*****************************************************************************

There are a lot of tutors out there, but I have a very educated background, having had a career in engineering for ten years. I worked as a Packaging Engineer in the medical device and pharmaceutical industries. I have also worked for NASA for five years. I bring a lot to the table with this education and experience.

*****************************************************************************
I have transitioned to being a professional private tutor because it is my PASSION and CALLING. I feel this work is sacred work, and I am meant to help all kids and adults learn and become more confident in their abilities. My work is VERY important to me. I am here to be a positive influence and to make learning new things easier to understand.

*****************************************************************************
My experience with tutoring covers OVER SIX YEARS, including over a year of volunteer tutoring for elementary school students. I also have more than 6 years of paid tutoring experience, having worked as an after-school tutor at an elementary school and now being self-employed and working with students of all ages since 2011.
*****************************************************************************

I currently help mostly children with their math, reading, science, writing, language arts and other general homework subjects on a daily basis. As a tutor, I am very patient and very positive. I encourage the students and help them to stay focused on the work at hand. High fives are a way to keep things fun and positive as well. I always have the kids' and adults' success as my focus. I am proud to say that I do get VERY GOOD RESULTS with kids and adults who are willing to do the work.

If you'd like more input on my abilities, references are available upon request.

I also have worked with all types of students including those with mental illnesses, ADD/ADHD, mild intellectual disabilities, and those who are transgender. I welcome all types of backgrounds.

Lastly, Varsity Tutors hired me to be a contract tutor for them. They only hire the BEST of the BEST tutors in the world. I had to go through a very long vetting process for them to accept me as a contract tutor for them. This included a personal online video interview, requiring me to answer a laundry list of questions of how I am as a tutor in different situations. This accomplishment was truly a feather in my cap!

Molly replied on 10/2/2013

I contacted Tiffany, and we talked. I explained that I was not irked about her needing to interview other tutors, but that I was concerned about the drive and the traffic, especially at night. The conversation went well, and things were ironed out. We decided that we could meet somewhere in the middle, so I wouldn't have a long drive. I look forward to working with her and her son in the future.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADHD

I have been working with a student who has ADD since August 2011, and feel qualified to tutor students with ADD/ADHD.

Algebra 1

I have a degree in Applied Sciences Engineering. I love working with adults AND children to understand the concepts of Algebra 1. I have a very good way of explaining math concepts. I am very patient, and I get results.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have volunteered and worked with children in most subjects in the K - 6th grade level. I know how to relate to any age student. I am very patient and supportive of the students I work with. I really enjoy my work, and I get results.

Elementary Math

I have worked with elementary school children in math since 2011. I am very good at explaining math concepts and am very patient. The child learns the basic rules of math with me and learns to enjoy math again.

Prealgebra

I love working with adults AND children to understand the concepts of Pre-Algebra. I have a very good way of explaining math concepts. I am very patient, and I get results.

Reading

I enjoy working with both kids and adults from grade one to nine to learn to read or to learn to read better. I am very patient with the students, and over time I get results. I am not a reading specialist, but I can work with each student side by side to sound out words and quiz them on reading comprehension.

Soccer

I have played soccer since I was 12 years old, and that is over 30 years. I have also coached soccer as a volunteer. My total experience has been about 4 seasons-worth of coaching.
