As a former chemist for the Justice Department, the U.S. Air Force, Biospherics, and AT&T as well as a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Drew University, I would very much enjoy tutoring any student having difficulty with the concepts in their chemistry, including AP Chemistry and college-level general chemistry, physics, French, Pre-algebra, Algebra I and Algebra II (with Trigonometry), Pre-calculus, Calculus, SAT Prep, ACT Prep, ASVAB Prep, GRE Prep, MCAT Prep, Grammar, and Elementary Science courses. On the MCAT examination, I scored between the 93rd percentile and the 96th percentile on the Chemistry, Physics, and Science Problems sections of the exam, three of the more challenging sections of the exam. I received college credit for all of the AP exams which I pursued including AP Chemistry, AP Calculus, and AP French Language. My specialty is being able to patiently explain concepts while breaking them down step-by-step, especially in long and complicated problems, such as weak acid-strong base titration problems or calculations of emitted energy using the Balmer-Rydberg equation. I am also very willing to adapt my tutoring style and techniques to the skill level and pace of learning of each individual student.

Please note the following tutoring policies:
The rate may need to be increased if more than one student is requested to be tutored at a time.
Frequent cancellations (for example, more than three consecutive cancellations) may result in forfeiture of a time period.

Approved Subjects

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

I enjoy teaching both math and science very much. I especially enjoy teaching Algebra 1 and seeing a student's skill level rise throughout the course of their study as the Algebra 1 course material builds upon the firm foundation at the beginning. As a chemistry major and scientist, I found that a thorough grasp of algebra and mathematics in general served me well throughout my career. As far as Algebra I specifically, I enjoy explaining word problems with systems of equations and showing how they can be related to everyday life as well as showing how to reduce polynomial fractions by cancelling out terms.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

I am knowledgeable about all aspects of Algebra II, including solving systems of equations with three variables, matrices, complex numbers, permutations and combinations, radical and rational functions, conic sections, and periodic functions. When teaching algebra, I enjoy seeing a student understand a concept he or she has been struggling with.
Chemistry

Chemistry

As a former forensic chemist and lab technician as well as a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Drew University with a degree in chemistry (and a French minor), I am qualified to tutor high school chemistry (including AP chemistry) as well as college-level general chemistry. I very much enjoy spreading an enthusiasm for learning, especially for the study of chemistry. I also enjoy witnessing first-hand the feeling of pride a student experiences when he or she has mastered a concept and seeing the progress that each individual student makes.
Fitness

Fitness

I am currently an AFPA certified personal trainer, having passed my certification exam in March, 2013. "AFPA" is an abbreviation for the American Fitness Professionals and Associates. In addition, I am certified by NCCPT, the National Council for Certified Personal Trainers, as a kickboxing instructor. I have also taught Hula Hooping for Fitness and Performance at my local community center. I enjoy very much teaching others Hula Hoop tricks, such as one-leg hooping, shoulder hooping, the shoulder duck-out, and the behind-the-back elbow pass. Hula hooping is a great form of exercise as well as a wonderful way to recapture some of the exuberance for play and sport from our youth.
Geometry

Geometry

I enjoy tutoring all aspects of geometry, starting with the foundations of deductive and inductive reasoning, parallel and perpendicular lines, congruence, and the classification of quadrilaterals, to the calculation of area of polygons, the surface area and volume of polyhedra, the properties of circles along with chords and arcs, and finally to the study of transformations. I especially enjoy working on complex problems involving circles with tangents, secants, and chords. However, the most enjoyable aspect of tutoring geometry is seeing a student's knowledge expand and watching his or her confidence grow while mastering more difficult problems.
MCAT

MCAT

Currently, I tutor four subject areas heavily emphasized on the MCAT: physics, chemistry, biology, and reading. In addition, I received scores of A in each of three Sociology and Psychology courses I took as an undergraduate at Drew University (The current MCAT includes a Social Sciences section). Furthermore, I took the MCAT exam in September of my senior year in college and received a 64 composite score, which translates or converts to approximately a 32 on more current scales; this score is roughly in the 90th percentile, with scores closer to 95% on each of the physics, chemistry, and science problems sections. My tutoring of high school and college chemistry and physics has aided me in staying abreast of science concepts in addition to the independent review of MCAT concepts I have conducted.
Organic Chemistry

Organic Chemistry

As a chemistry major at Drew University, I completed courses which covered college-level organic chemistry and synthesis and graduated magna cum laude with Phi Beta Kappa honors. Specifically, the fall of my sophomore year, I took the course, Reactions and Mechanisms, which was a precursor to the spring course, Synthesis, I completed. I also completed several laboratory courses involving organic reactants and products as well as functioned as a teaching assistant for freshmen and sophomore students who needed extra support to comprehend the more challenging concepts in their chemistry classes. In addition, I worked at Allied Chemical Corporation as a laboratory technician carrying out organic syntheses for research purposes.
Prealgebra

Prealgebra

I especially enjoy teaching pre-algebra as it is interesting seeing a student start to understand how to represent numbers as variables and build on this foundation by manipulating variables through properties of equality. It is also gratifying to watch a student progress to solving linear equations, inequalities, systems of equations, and then quadratic equations by various methods, including graphing, substitution, elimination, completing the square, and by using the quadratic formula. I understand that each student may require a different pace or approach while learning pre-algebra concepts.
