I am passionate about history and enjoy teaching, as it allows me to share my knowledge of how history works. Studying history is about asking good questions and weighing the evidence to grasp what happened. I encourage students to look critically at the sources and analyze the motivations in play. Teaching is fun, as I also learn from my students, who sometimes challenge my own assumptions. My lessons are highly customized to the needs of each individual student. I am a certified and experienced online AP History teacher with a PhD in History from Cambridge University. I have always been fascinated by US History. My main areas of expertise are in the eighteenth and twentieth centuries, but I have also studied the Civil War in detail and am very knowledgeable about American foreign policy. As a tutor, I like to focus on exam strategies and time management. US History appears to be a lot of work, but it is fun to study and very relevant for understanding politics today.

I wrote my PhD on the Wars of the French Revolution. I have researched the Holocaust for 25 years and served as an expert witness in Nazi war crimes trials. I have taught at all levels from undergraduates to seminars for faculty members. I have published four books and edited an encyclopedia, so the little I don't know, I can teach you how to find.

Super Efficient and Effective Tutor

Martin did a thorough job of preparing my son for the AP Euro Exam. He is extremely knowledgeable, but also personable, very organized and efficient in how he helps students prepare for the test. He helped my son practice his answers for the open ended questions but was also able to quickly switch gears when my son felt like he needed more help in content review. My son is not a history lover by nature, but thanks to some hard work and Martin's expertise he was able to score a 5. We will definitely be using Martin again!
