Hi, I'm Dan. I have been tutoring mathematics since 1997 and specialize in SAT Math, ACT Math, GED Math, Algebra, Geometry, Precalculus, and Calculus.
I hold a B.A. in Mathematics from the University of Chicago, an M.S.Ed. from Johns Hopkins University, and a B.S. in Atmospheric Sciences from the University of Maryland. Hi, I'm Dan. I have been tutoring mathematics since 1997 and specialize in SAT Math, ACT Math, GED Math, Algebra, Geometry, Precalculus, and Calculus.
I hold a B.A. in Mathematics from the University of Chicago, an M.S.Ed. from Johns Hopkins University, and a B.S. in Atmospheric Sciences from the University of Maryland. I taught mathematics at the DC Phelps School of Engineering, Construction, and Architecture and have edited or co-authored eight test-preparation books, including SAT and GED math titles.
My teaching style emphasizes understanding concepts rather than memorizing formulas. I guide students to discover solutions, analyze mistakes, and build confidence through practice. I have extensive experience working with students with ADHD, dyscalculia, autism spectrum differences, gifted learners, and students who struggle with math anxiety.
One of the most rewarding parts of tutoring is seeing students improve grades, raise test scores, gain confidence, and achieve goals they once thought were out of reach. I have been tutoring ACT Math for nearly 10 years, and have raised the grades of kids, and helped them get into their top choice colleges including Cornell, Georgetown, University of Michigan, and others. I have edited and cowritten 8 test preparation books. I have been tutoring pre-calculus for 20 years and know the public school curriculum. I focus on helping the student understand the material rather than memorize things. In my education I have taken 20 courses that include trigonometry from calculus to physics to physics lab and meteorology courses such as fluid dynamics and thermodynamics as well as physical meteorology, remote sensing, synoptic meteorology and atmospheric chemistry. I know a lot of application problems including finance and economics, which makes the subject more interesting.

I have been tutoring math SAT for 20 years and have authored and edited 2 math SAT books, "Math SAT 800: How to Master the Toughest Problems," and "SAT Math Prep 800: Challenge Yourself to the Perfect Score." I designed the math SAT curriculum for a course at Education Unlimited, a college preparatory camp in Berkeley, CA. I like to get the student to enjoy solving problems and challenge himself to the maximum score he is capable of. I like to help visual learners because many of the problems on the math SAT are easier to solve when visualized. I have experience with kids with learning disabilities, beginner students, and more advanced students. I look forward to helping you obtain the best score possible.
