Every family deserves access to patient, dependable academic support, especially when life is already incredibly busy. I’m Mrs. Deaver, a licensed Maryland educator with a bachelor’s degrees in English language and literature and a bachelor's degree in computer networks and security. I have experience teaching middle school and high school students in both long-term substitute and full-time classroom roles, including Foundations of Computer Science, and AP Computer Science Principles.

In the classroom, I worked with students as a whole class, in smaller, groups, and individually. My approach to teaching is relaxed and encouraging: “What are you working on? Let’s figure it out together.” I break down complicated instructions and concepts into manageable steps, model unfamiliar skills, use guided practice, and adjust my explanations to meet each student’s learning needs. I also help students organize their thoughts, strengthen their writing, solve problems, and develop effective study and work habits.

I provide support in middle and high school English, writing, computer science, digital literacy, and general homework organization. My goal is not only to help students finish an assignment, but to help them understand what they are doing, feel less overwhelmed, and become more confident and independent learners.

Computer Science

For two years, I taught both Foundations of Computer Science and AP Computer Science Principles at the high school level. Before becoming a full-time high school teacher, I taught Foundations of Computer Science to middle school students for one year as a long-term substitute teacher. I am a licensed Maryland educator and received my teaching license in May 2026. I have experience supporting students with 504 plans and IEPs, and I tailor my instruction and explanations to each student’s individual academic needs.
English

English

I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in English language and literature from the University of Maryland, College Park. My background includes literary analysis, academic writing, grammar, proofreading, and professional copywriting and editing. I help middle and high school students strengthen their reading comprehension, organize essays, develop clear arguments, and revise their work for clarity and correctness. As an experienced classroom teacher, I break challenging assignments into manageable steps and adapt my explanations to each student’s needs.
Literature

Literature

I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in English language and literature from the University of Maryland, College Park. My academic background includes the close reading and analysis of fiction, drama, poetry, and nonfiction. I help middle and high school students identify themes, analyze characters and literary devices, support interpretations with evidence from the text, and develop well-organized analytical essays. As an experienced classroom teacher, I make challenging texts more approachable by breaking down the reading and writing process into manageable steps, helping students feel less anxious and more confident.
Reading

Reading

I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in English language and literature from the University of Maryland, College Park. As a classroom teacher, I helped middle and high school students understand written directions, literary works, informational texts, and technical material. I help students identify main ideas, make inferences, use context clues, summarize passages, and support their answers with evidence from the text. My patient, step-by-step approach makes challenging reading assignments feel less overwhelming and helps students become more confident, independent readers.
