Bio

I am new to Wyzant, but I am not new to test-prep. I have five years experience tutoring for the oldest national test prep brand, and three years experience tutoring as a free-lancer. In high school, I scored in the 99th percentile on both the Math and Verbal section of the SAT, and I was a National Merit Scholar. I have tutored dozens of students one-on-one, and I have taught hundreds of students in classroom SAT prep classes.

I am new to Wyzant, but I am not new to test-prep. I have five years experience tutoring for the oldest national test prep brand, and three years experience tutoring as a free-lancer. In high school, I scored in the 99th percentile on both the Math and Verbal section of the SAT, and I was a National Merit Scholar. I have tutored dozens of students one-on-one, and I have taught hundreds of students in classroom SAT prep classes.

I have taken students from an 850 to a 1050, from a 1450 to a 1560, from a 1050 to a 1490, from a 1250 to a 1430. I am happy to meet you where you are and take you to where you want to go. I believe that absolutely anyone can master the test, given enough time and enough hard work.

As a tutor, I am patient and kind. I love that there is more than one way to solve and to think about a problem. The easy part of tutoring for me is the test itself, but the hard part, the fun part, is getting to know my students, their way of thinking, and the best way possible for them to approach the test.

To prepare for our first meeting, you should download the College Board Bluebook App and take Practice Test One. We can spend our first meeting reviewing the practice test, and I can suggest materials and craft a study plan based on the results of the practice test. If you prefer, our first meeting can also just be asking and answering questions about the SAT.

My favorite book to teach from is Nielson Phu’s College Panda for the Digital SAT. If you send me your missed questions from a Bluebook practice test, I will tell you which chapters will be most valuable to you, personally, to make the biggest point gain. Some chapters are more valuable than others, and we want to hit the big points first! I also have a series of worksheets that I’ve collected over the years for the most common foundational topics that students so often need to review.

My favorite book to teach from is Erica Meltzer’s series: SAT Reading, SAT Grammar, and SAT Vocabulary for the Digital SAT. If you send me your missed questions from a Bluebook practice test, I will tell you which chapters you need to cover. I’ve never had a student who needed to do an entire book – work smarter, not harder!

An Extremely Helpful Tutor Who Helped My Son Immensely.

Laura is an amazing tutor. She helped my son with SAT Reading & Writing, and her weekly practice questions played a significant role in increasing his score from 690 to 730 in less than two months (8 classes). She is very knowledgeable and quickly identifies the areas where a student needs improvement.
