About David

I am a former Fulbright Scholar and have taught and tutored students from different backgrounds, levels and nationalities for over 19 years. I love languages and fluently speak 8 of them. I took English, French and German in High School as majors and did French Linguistics and Bilingual studies (French and English) at undergraduate Level.

As a Fulbright scholar I took American Sign Language (ASL) classes to do graduate course work at Gallaudet University, Washington DC. I also worked as Principal and Language teacher at the Ephphatha Institute for the Deaf for 5 years. In addition, I hold a degree in Arts and Art History and have participated in many Art exhibitions.

I specialize in tutoring students in English (TOEFL), French, Sign Language and Fine arts (painting and drawing). My tutoring methods include working on speaking (pronunciation), vocabulary and writing. I make use of audio materials, pictures and videos to reinforce learning. I have a 12h cancellation policy and offer makeup classes.

I look forward to hearing from you and working with you to achieve your goals.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Bible Studies

I hold BA in Theology from the Cameroon Baptist Seminary. I have been a youth pastor a Bible teacher for many years. Currently, I am responsible for teaching the Bible Hour at our church to the Deaf and our French speaking members.

English

I am a former Fulbright Scholar at Gallaudet University, Washington DC. I have taught English at secondary school level to deaf students for five years.

French

I am a native French speaker. I majored in French Literature while in High School and earned a Baccalaureat A4 known in France as 'le BAC' which is the academic qualification in France and in French speaking countries. In addition, I did French linguistics and Bilingual studies (French and English) as part of my course load at the University to earn my BA in Arts. I have taught French as a classroom teacher and tutored in French for over 19 years. Definitely, I have a great experience and mastery of the French language that can be of help to students of all ages.

Painting

I hold a BA in Art and Art History from the University of Yaounde1, Cameroon, Africa. After my graduation from the university, I had the opportunity to tutor students in painting and drawing at the Ephphatha institute for the Deaf and at the American School in Yaounde, Cameroon. I have also taken part in many art exhibitions and sold many of my works.

Sign Language

I am a fluent signer ( American Sign Language) and former Fulbright Scholar at Gallaudet University, Washington DC, the world's only liberal arts college for deaf and hard of hearing students.
While following my MA program in Deaf Education at Galludet, I had the privilege of working with students and professors from different backgrounds and nationalities.
In addition, I had the opportunity to do internship programs with deaf students at Model elementary for the Deaf in Washington DC. These experiences gave me a great understanding of how to approach teaching and tutoring diverse individuals and groups. Finally, my strength as an ASL (American Sign Language) teacher and tutor comes from my close to 19 years of living and teaching with the Deaf.

Excellent tutor

David is extremely personable and a good ASL tutor. He starts from where we are and then challenges us to improve. I've learned a tremendous amount in the brief amount of time he's worked with us and I strongly recommend him.
