I had previous tutoring experience in undergrad supporting high school students in science and math subjects. The general approach entailed guided homework sessions where I allowed the students to take the lead working through problems and I filled in the gaps in their knowledge, explaining and demonstrating topics that challenged them until they were able to understand on their own. This was a volunteer experience working one on one with individual students. I received positive feedback for my sessions from students and parents alike and my students were more confident in their abilities after our sessions. I am an easygoing person and that is reflected in my teaching style. I foster an environment where students are held accountable to learn and demonstrate their growth, but also encouraged to ask questions and be comfortable seeking help. School isn't easy and I find that building confidence is key to building a teacher-student rapport that provides the most benefit.
