Bio

I help students of all ages build confidence and understanding in math. Whether they’re catching up, keeping up, or exploring ahead, I meet each learner where they are and explain concepts clearly, step by step.

My students range from early learners to adults preparing for tests like the SAT, ACT, GRE, or Praxis (5164 and 5165). Many come to me feeling anxious, confused, or unsure if they can succeed in math. I’ve had teachers who couldn’t explain math well — and I know how frustrating...

I’ve had teachers who couldn’t explain math well — and I know how frustrating that feels. I aim to be the kind of teacher I once needed: clear, patient, and thoughtful.

I’ve worked successfully with students who are gifted, homeschooled, or have learning challenges like ADHD or dyscalculia. I also support English language learners, especially Russian-speaking students who are learning both math and English at the same time.

I use visual and interactive tools to help students practice and feel more in control of their learning. For younger students, I introduce Graspable Math; for older students, I often use Desmos. These tools help students check their work, explore ideas, and move past the feeling of “I have no idea what this is.”

My approach to test prep is calm and realistic. I don’t offer last-minute cram sessions, but I do help students work through practice tests, find gaps, and grow steadily. Even short-term prep can work if a student is ready to engage with the material.

I’ve taught math for over 20 years in many settings: university, tutoring, homeschool, summer programs, math circles, and public schools. I can also offer support between sessions for quick questions.

If you're ready to feel more confident in math, I’d love to work with you.

Algebra 2

Algebra 2

Covers core Algebra 2 topics including but not limited to functions, polynomials, rational expressions, equations and inequalities, trigonometry, exponential and logarithmic functions, matrices, combinatorics, sequences and series, graphing, and an introduction to complex numbers and statistics—emphasis on structure, connections between topics, and multiple approaches to problem solving. Sessions also include support with study skills, calculator use (including DESMOS and others), searching and evaluating educational resources, and discussing solution steps.
Geometry

Geometry

I help students understand geometry through the use of diagrams, logical reasoning, and clear explanations. We focus on angle relationships, such as vertical, adjacent, complementary, and supplementary, as well as core problem-solving strategies. I guide students using their school materials and help them build independence with tools like GeoGebra. Lessons are flexible and adapted to each student’s pace and goals.
Russian

Russian

Russian is my native language, and when I started to do tutoring I found out that many people would like me to teach them not Math but Russian. I am tutoring for a few years now. I was teaching one on one and I had a class of a few students. I was working in a class environment and also through video chat like Skype. Some students would prefer to work on the curriculum they are using in school or college right now, and learning with me in this situation was more a supplement to the classwork. Some were going to Russia or expected visitors from Russia. In this situation we more worked on the goals they had. I was teaching them to read Cyrillic, being able to understand names of streets, train stations and use a dictionary. We also work on the expressions that my students need to know on the daily basis. As a professional teacher I recognize some teaching methods my ESL teachers used and add my own variation of those methods to my professional tools.

Great Tutor!

Marina was very patient with me while we had our lesson. I really like how she could answer any questions I had, and in almost all cases better than my teachers in school could.
