Bob Jones University, B.S. Biology (Biology)
I received my B.S. in Biology with a minor in Physical Science (physics and chemistry) from Bob Jones University in 2005.
I have worked as a tutor and teacher for 12 years. During my college career, I tutored college students in biology, chemistry, and algebra. I also tutored high school algebra, chemistry, and biology while I pursued my undergraduate education.
After I received my Bachelor's degree, I worked for one year as a high school algebra, chemistry, physics, and physical science teacher for students in 8th-12th grade. I also worked as an after school tutor for 2nd through 12th graders in math and chemistry.
I have extensive experience working with children and adults with special needs. I have worked with individuals who have disabilities and special needs for 14 years in roles including camp counselor, lifeguard, in home support specialist, respite care provider, horseback riding instructor, teacher, and tutor.
I have several years of experience with the IEP process for students with special needs and I greatly enjoy working with children and teenagers with special needs who have focus and attention issues as well as handwriting problems. I am pursuing certification as a handwriting specialist through Handwriting Without Tears for pre-k through cursive handwriting development.
I am also certified at the registered level through the North American Riding for the Handicapped Association (NARHA) as a therapeutic horseback riding instructor, and I have extensive experience working with children and adults with autism, brain injury, cerebral palsy, and developmental disabilities.
I use a multi-faceted teaching style, realizing that every student is different and every student's needs are unique. I have found through my experience that it is best to combine visual, auditory, and hands-on, experiential teaching methods in order to provide a teaching and learning experience that will grasp the attention of the child and help him or her to retain the learning for life rather than just memorizing it for a test or for one class. Learning is meant to be retained and to be utilized in building skills for life. Educational background:

My son was advised by his chemistry teacher to drop the class after just 6 weeks during his first year at college. Then we hired Meredith and my son scored 87 on his final exam at the semester. What more can I say? Thanks.
Meredith is in the process of teaching me how to master word problems. I love the way she allows me to work the problem out at my own pace in front of her so that she can learn where my mistakes are being made. She also teaches me different ways to do a problem so that I can pick which way works best for me. We are in the process of preparing me for the TEAS test. She is worth every penny. Thank you Meredith.
She is a superb tutor! Patient beyond belief, able to break down concepts and make sure they are understandable! - totally prepared me for my pre-cal test! Would HIGHLY recommend her!
I had a problem with my writing score in the TOEFL. I took 2 sessions with her and she helped me a lot to enhance my writing.
She boosted my confidence with her tips and tricks. She is very helpful and patient.
I think I did very well in my last TOEFL. The score will come out during 5-6 days. I'm pretty sure it's going to be higher!
Meredith has a variety of sensory tools available to help kids stay focused and have fun at their lessons. For instance, my sensory guy was able to write more content by slipping into the hammock in between exercises. She also is a patient tutor with good understanding of school grade level writing. We are catching up with his class.
I have been very impressed with Meredith's tutoring style. Her patience and subject knowledge are wonderful. Meredith has the ability to pass along knowledge without spoon-feeding; she guides our son through the learning process allowing him to reach the correct conclusions. She is able to be flexible with us which was very important due to our son's health issues. I can reach her easily via phone or text. Our family is very pleased with Meredith's tutoring.
So glad I found her. I only wished I found her earlier when my daughter was in Middle School. She loves to teach children, some of these teachers in the public schools need to learn from her. She is the best.
I typically don’t write reviews but feel that I must share the experience that my son has had with Meredith. My son has always been behind in Reading. I have tried all kinds of programs, Hooked on Phonics, Kumon, ABC Mouse, Reading Eggs, and even other tutors.
In November 2013, Dominic was diagnosed with Convergence Insufficiency, where his eyes do not “team” well for the purpose of reading. While he seemed to do better with therapy, he was still very much behind with his reading skills. Over the summer (between third and fourth grade), I sought the help of finding a tutor through WzyAnt. I found a really economically priced tutor, but my son did not progress as much as I hoped, and with every other effort (over the years) still was not excited about reading.
At first, I was a little hesitant about Meredith’s fee (because to be honest, I am living pay check to pay check), but after reading reviews I was willing to give her a chance. Having Meredith as a tutor, my son has made more progress in 3 MONTHS, than he has in 2 YEARS! This is the very first time that I have EVER witnessed him get this excited about tutoring. One thing that he loves about working with Meredith is that she makes tutoring fun and easy to understand. She is one of the most patient people I have ever met. Her tutoring sessions are well worth every penny!
My son's teacher (from last year) informed his current teacher about his need for additional assistance this school year. As a result of this information (in a recent conference), I was told that he is now performing beyond her expectations. In the beginning of this school year, he would often come to her for help, but for the month or so, he has been performing work on his own. I just started crying when I saw an 81 average in Reading on his first quarter report card (and that was his lowest grade). I thought that the improvement I witnessed with homework was partially due to my knowledge that he was in tutoring, but to hear compliments on his work from his teacher (who was not aware of his outside help until the conference), felt amazing.
I am so proud of him! He could not have done that without the help of Meredith. I truly love Meredith for the dedication she shows to him. She is not just interested in his reading level, but also the progress he is making in life. For all that she has done, my family is truly blessed.
Meredith has very calming tutoring style that fits perfect with my son. I believe there is equal trust from the both of them throughout the process and results also have been very positive. My son throughout the first quarter has seen Meredith once week and finish the first quarter with 85% for chemistry. He is looking to continue to improve and Meredith has been very positive influence for him.
I love each and every session that I have with Miss Meredith. She is a very intellectual person who has the patience to work with her students. She is willing to work with you until you finally get what it is your are struggling with. She is a very friendly person who doesn't judge her students. She is a very understanding person and one of the greatest tutors I've had for math so far. She makes the hardest things so very easy with different strategical/mathematical strategies. My grades have gotten way better. I went from low grade to a B average with Miss Meredith's help. She is there when I need help. If ever I need quick help or need to remember something I can email her or text her she allows this and it is very helpful to me. She is very humble and enjoys her work. I highly recommend Miss Meredith to anyone in the Baltimore area that Is struggling with math or any other subject. I give her 5 stars.
She really enjoys her work and makes it semi-fun. As fun as school can be for my son who absolutely hates school.
This is a very awesome tutor. She made my life easier when it came to chemistry. She's very flexible and patient. The time and dedication that she put into me was worth it. I'm getting over my hurdle in chemistry! Thanks, Ms. Meredith. You're the best!!
My daughter, a high school senior, has been struggling with the standardized tests for college admission. Meredith's tutoring is just what the doctor ordered to help her strengthen her math, science and reading skills to prep for the ACT. Meredith assesses her capabilities, hones in on the weak areas, and comes up with a plan to boost her performance in those problem areas. Meredith's tutoring has also helped to boost my daughter's confidence about taking the ACT next month. I would not hesitate to recommend her as a tutor.
My son loves his tutor. She is very patient. Thank you for being such a good tutor.
Meredith is tutoring two of our children (7 years old and 11 years old) in reading and writing. Meredith is very patient with the children, both of whom seem very comfortable with Meredith and are responding quite well to Meredith's teaching style. Each child has had two lessons and will continue to work with Meredith twice a week for the remainder of the Summer and into the school year. We are confident that Meredith is a great match for our children.
I recently had the pleasure of working with Meredith as she helped me prepare to take the GRE exam. She helped me specifically in math. I came to Meredith only 2 weeks before the test. She did a fabulous job helping understand the structure of the test, and what material I could expect to see on it as well. She walked me through each math topic with understanding of my learning style, and a complete understanding of the material. She made me feel confident and prepared. Meredith was warm and welcoming, and never made me feel like I was failing to understand what I was learning. She simply used my way of thinking to approach the topic from a different angle. Even in between sessions she sent me things to work on, and always offered to help at any time. I HIGHLY recommend Meredith as a tutor. I couldn't have done as well as I did without her!
As Meredith started teaching me I understood right away, she has patient and understood why I was not understanding and taught in a way that I could understand. I did receive my GED. Thanks to Meredith that now I can get my nursing degree. I give her 10 stars.
I cannot say enough good things about Meredith's work with my son. He has always struggled with Algebra, so was reluctant to do extra work with a tutor. However, from the first lesson, it became clear that Meredith taught the material in a way that quickly gave him a sense of confidence that he could master the material. As he said after a lesson, "I learn more from Meredith in 1 hour than I learned all of last year in Algebra class." His Algebra II grade climbed from a D to a B and, more importantly, he no longer believes that he has no talent for math. Meredith has been nothing short of a miracle for my son. I cannot recommend her highly enough!
Meredith has been my daughters tutor few a few months now. Progress was seen after the first tutoring session. I see new found confidence when my daughter is reading; Meredith has provided her with processes to help with comprehension and when she runs into academic issues. Meredith is the best and highly, highly recommended. My daughter looks forward to her tutoring sessions and she's eager to work on any assignment that Meredith asks her to work on.
I contacted Meredith the day I found out I didn't get accepted into nursing school. My rejection was due to a low entrance exam score (TEAS V). This exam is 33% of the selective admission process. I was able to significantly raise my scores with Meredith's help.
She was very understanding and went over my weak areas one step at a time. Not only would I recommend Meredith to anyone, but I will contact her myself if I need her in the future.
Meredith has been a wonderful tutor for my son, who is studying to take the ASVAB test. She comes to the house and is always very professional. She gets right to work and is extremely well prepared. She is easy to contact and very personable. She works diligently at setting up a plan that is tailored to my son's learning capabilities and incorporates things he likes and enjoys into the lessons.
Meredith was so helpful in preparing me for the GED that instead of receiving my GED, I received my Maryland high school diploma!
Math has always been my problem area. Throughout schooling, grasping topics has always been hard. When I emailed Meredith, I told her that tutoring me was probably going to be one of the hardest things she had ever done, but she was up for the challenge. Meredith asked me what my problems were, evaluated my current knowledge, and decided how to attack each problem area, and it worked. I genuinely looked forward to every tutoring session, and the way that Meredith explained things always made sense. She always made it seem like my goal of learning the math I needed to pass the GED was attainable. Meredith is super hands-on, and she is very patient. She is very dedicated in teaching students and is confident in her skills, which made me confident in my skills. Meredith is very willing to do whatever she needs to do to help her students feel comfortable and confident with the material. She is easily accessible - she always answers her phone or text messages as soon as her students contact her. Tutoring with Meredith is never dull and boring. I believe that she is much more gifted in teaching and cares more about student success than any teacher that I have ever met.
Meredith was excellent! She took her time with me to be sure I understood. She was extremely patient and explained in great detail whenever necessary. I would recommend her to anyone!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taken the ASVAB and have assisted many students in preparing to take the ASVAB when I was working as a high school math and science teacher. Four areas make up the score for the Armed Forces Qualifying Test (AFQT) - Arithmetic Reasoning, Word Knowledge, Paragraph Comprehension and Mathematics Knowledge. I have taught and tutored all of these specific subject areas for 8 years, and I will be happy to work with you as you prepare to take the ASVAB and to enter a career in the military.
I have been studying the Bible by independent study for over 10 years, and I went to Bible college for 4 years. I have taken specific classes in Old Testament, New Testament, the teachings of Christ, the teachings of Paul, Romans, Acts, Bible Doctrines, Modern Cults as they relate to the Bible, Biblical perspectives on marriage, and Biblical womanhood. I am constantly involved in continuing education and personal Bible study. I am involved in teaching and discipling youth (age 14-18) in biblical principles on a weekly basis.
I have experience with several Bible translations, including the King James Version, New King James Version, New International Version, English Standard Version, The Amplified Bible, and The Message. I commit to understanding the differences between these translations and to always referring back to the Greek and Hebrew for final interpretation of the scripture.
I believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God and that it is profitable not only for the addition of knowledge but for the development of a living relationship with a living God who came to earth in human form to die for the sin of mankind and who rose from the dead, taking our sin and giving those who trust Him as their personal Savior victory over death, eternal life, and a personal relationship with Him.
I enjoy tutoring and teaching elementary age children because the skills that they learn at this young age will be the foundation for learning for the rest of their lives. I realize the importance of a sensory, experiential learning environment for young children and I adapt my teaching style to meet the individual needs of each child. I have experience tutoring students age 3 through college age, both with and without special needs. I enjoy working with children who have speech and language difficulties, and I emphasize good study habits and the importance of using all life experiences as a time for learning. I can comfortably and confidently teach math, science, reading, writing, and a variety of other elementary level subjects. I strive in every lesson to make learning fun and to instill in children a love of learning... not just for the moment, but for a lifetime.
I have taught conversational english as a second language to Chinese exchange students for two years through PeopleLink, a foreign exchange program. In addition, I also taught and tutored Korean students ages 10-18 for two years in English, math, and science. I am constantly studying other languages and cultures to become more proficient in them. I excel at grammar and composition of the English language, and I especially enjoy teaching students using a holistic method involving book work, conversational work, and experiential learning by emphasizing using english in everyday life at the store, at work, and when spending time with others.
I have 10 years of experience working with children and adults with special needs. I have worked as a camp counselor, respite care provider, individual support specialist, Special Olympics coach, autism instructor, horseback riding instructor, math and science teacher, and tutor to children and adults of varying ages and disabilities.
I have 5 years of experience implementing IEP goals and helping students to adapt their study and learning habits in order to succeed in learning, not only for classroom and test knowledge, but for lifelong learning and skill acquisition.
I provide tutoring and study skills help for individuals in pre-kindergarten through adults in all subjects, including english, handwriting, reading, math (elementary through algebra), and science.
The TEAS V is a test structured to help nursing admissions staff determine future success of nursing school applicants. This test has 5 sections: Mathematics, Reading, Science, English, and Language Usage. As a TEAS tutor, I will help you with study techniques and core knowledge in each of these subject areas. I have been tutoring test preparation in all of the TEAS subject areas for over 10 years, and I teach in a way that helps you to use your current knowledge to build a solid foundation in academic skill, both for success on the TEAS and in your future academic career!
