Hi! I'm Tristan, and I have 6 years of experience tutoring and mentoring students at the high school, college, and professional school levels.
During college, I worked as a college success mentor and tutored General Chemistry I and II, Biology, and Neuroscience. I later taught graduate and medical school level Anatomy, Embryology, Radiology, and Clinical Anatomy. I also have a certificate in Education for Healthcare Professionals and experience tutoring students preparing for the TEAS and HESI exams.
I believe tutoring should be individualized because not every student learns the same way. I use the Socratic method, meaning I don't want to simply give you the answer. Instead, I ask guiding questions to help you work through problems, connect concepts to what you already know, and figure out where your reasoning may have gone wrong. My goal is for you to eventually work through similar problems on your own.

I also help students create realistic study schedules. Sometimes the issue isn't understanding the material. It's figuring out how to study, staying focused, or getting back on track. I enjoy helping students find what works for them. Working in research has taught me to look at problems holistically and use data to make decisions. I bring this into tutoring by looking at grades, practice scores, and performance over time. If what we're doing isn't working, we change it! Outside of tutoring, I've mentored students pursuing nursing, radiologic technology, medical school, and PhD programs. I especially enjoy working with nontraditional students, whether they're earning their GED, transitioning from community college to university, or returning to school to pursue a different career.

I'm new to Wyzant, so I'm currently offering a lower introductory rate while I build up reviews on the platform!
Whether you're struggling with a science course, preparing for an entrance exam, or figuring out your next steps academically, I'd love to help you work toward your goals!

Approved Subjects

Anatomy

Anatomy

My anatomy background includes graduate-level training in human anatomy and hands-on experience with human cadaveric dissection, prosections, anatomical models, and medical imaging. I have taught anatomy in both laboratory and classroom settings, including working with graduate and health-professions students in Medical Gross Anatomy and delivering dedicated instruction on cranial nerve anatomy. My experience allows me to teach anatomy from foundational high school concepts through more advanced college-level material. I emphasize spatial relationships, structure-function connections, and clinical applications to help students build a true understanding of anatomy rather than relying solely on memorization.
Biology

Biology

My biology background extends beyond coursework into hands-on biomedical research, where I work with concepts in cell biology, molecular biology, genetics, cancer biology, and physiology on a regular basis. I have also mentored high school students in biomedical research, helping them understand how foundational biology concepts connect to real experiments and human disease. My experience allows me to support students from high school biology through college-level coursework while bringing real-world context to topics that can otherwise feel abstract. I focus on helping students understand biological systems and make connections between concepts rather than simply memorizing facts.
Chemistry

Chemistry

I served as a teaching assistant for General Chemistry I and II during college, helping students understand foundational chemistry concepts and work through challenging problems. I hold an M.S. in Medical Sciences and a B.S. in Neuroscience, with additional coursework in organic chemistry, biochemistry, and the biomedical sciences. I focus on breaking down topics such as stoichiometry, atomic structure, bonding, solutions, acids and bases, and chemical reactions into clear, manageable steps.
Elementary Math

Elementary Math

I enjoy helping younger students build strong foundations in math by breaking problems into clear, manageable steps. My educational background includes undergraduate and graduate training in the sciences, which required extensive use of mathematics, quantitative reasoning, and problem-solving. As an educator, I focus on helping students understand why a method works rather than simply memorizing steps. I can support students with arithmetic, fractions, decimals, percentages, word problems, basic geometry, and other foundational math skills while helping them become more confident and independent learners.
Elementary Science

Elementary Science

I have a strong background in the biological and physical sciences through my undergraduate and graduate education in neuroscience and medical sciences. I currently work in biomedical research at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and have experience teaching and mentoring students in science. I enjoy making scientific concepts approachable by using real-world examples, visuals, and step-by-step explanations. I can help elementary students build a strong science foundation while developing curiosity, confidence, and critical-thinking skills.
HESI (Nursing exam)

HESI (Nursing exam)

I have previously tutored students preparing for the HESI nursing entrance exam and have experience teaching the foundational science and math subjects covered on the exam. I have earned A's in Biology, Microbiology, General Chemistry, Anatomy and Physiology I and II, and College Algebra, and have served as a teaching assistant in these subjects. I also hold a Master of Science from Texas A&M College of Medicine and a certificate in Education for Healthcare Professionals. My approach focuses on identifying knowledge gaps, strengthening foundational understanding, and helping students develop effective test taking strategies and individualized study plans based on their goals.
Neuroscience

Neuroscience

I earned my B.S. in Neuroscience and completed graduate research using mouse models of epilepsy, including drug administration and studying neurological outcomes. I also have experience teaching neuroanatomy and gave a graduate medical lecture on the cranial nerves and peripheral nervous system. My teaching focuses on connecting neuroscience concepts to anatomy and physiology rather than relying only on memorization. I use guiding questions and real world examples to help students reason through difficult concepts and understand how everything connects.
Physiology

Physiology

I have experience teaching anatomy and physiology to undergraduate, graduate, and medical students and hold a certificate in Education for Healthcare Professionals. As a graduate teaching assistant, I taught Gross Anatomy, Embryology, Radiology, and Clinical Anatomy, including cadaver based instruction and a lecture on the cranial nerves and peripheral nervous system. My biomedical research experience also helps me connect physiology to disease processes and real world applications. I focus on helping students understand how and why body systems work together rather than simply memorizing information.
Study Skills

Study Skills

I have experience helping high school, college, and graduate-level students develop stronger approaches to learning challenging material. My approach emphasizes practical strategies such as active recall, spaced practice, effective note-taking, time management, test-taking strategies, and creating realistic study schedules. As an educator, I focus on helping students understand why a study strategy works and how to adapt it to their individual needs rather than relying on passive rereading or cramming. I can also help students build the organization and independent-learning skills needed for the transition from high school or homeschool to college.
TEAS

TEAS

I have experience tutoring students preparing for the ATI TEAS exam, particularly in science and mathematics, and helping them prepare for admission into nursing programs. I have earned A's in Biology, Microbiology, General Chemistry, Anatomy and Physiology I and II, and College Algebra, and have served as a teaching assistant in these subjects. My academic background includes a Master of Science from Texas A&M College of Medicine and a certificate in Education for Healthcare Professionals. When preparing students for the TEAS, I focus on strengthening scientific reasoning, reviewing essential math concepts, and using practice questions to identify areas that need additional attention.
