I am an experienced educator with more than 15 years of classroom teaching and private tutoring experience, working with students from middle school through high school as well as adult learners. My academic background includes a bachelor's degree in Sociology and a master's degree in Education. Throughout my career, I have taught biology, environmental science, chemistry, general science, reading, writing, and mathematics. I am also trained in Orton-Gillingham instructional methods, allowing me to support students with a wide range of reading and literacy needs. In addition to subject-area tutoring, I help students prepare for standardized tests, including the SAT and AP exams.
My approach to tutoring is highly individualized and grounded in the science of learning. I believe that understanding how memory, retrieval, and long-term learning work allows students to study more effectively and build lasting confidence. Rather than relying on memorization alone, I tailor each lesson to a student's strengths, learning style, and goals. I develop customized instructional materials and, when desired, provide practice assignments between sessions along with detailed feedback to reinforce concepts and monitor progress.
Tutoring sessions are available in 30-, 45-, or 60-minute formats. I devote significant time outside of each session to planning and reviewing student progress so that every lesson builds on previous learning. For a typical one-hour tutoring session, I generally spend at least two additional hours preparing personalized materials, analyzing student progress, and designing the next steps in the learning plan. This level of preparation allows me to provide focused, engaging instruction that helps students achieve meaningful academic growth while developing independent learning skills.
