Hi, I'm Julia! I graduated from Carleton College with a Bachelor's in English and love sharing my excitement for literature with students. The classes I always enjoyed the most were ones about topics I was interested in and I apply the same idea to tutoring--practicing English skills, like reading or writing, can be fun if you do it about things that are interesting to you! My goal is for my students to genuinely have fun in lessons, while also learning.
Additionally, I spent 2 years in Madrid, Spain, teaching ESL to middle and high schoolers. I enjoyed working with the students and motivating them to learn English for many reasons--for school/university, but also for travel and watching American TV series! The classes I taught had a strong focus on grammar, but in the higher level classes it was all about conversation and preparing for the university entrance exams. In Madrid, I also tutored some students individually in English, reinforcing what they had learned in school and preparing for tests. We would play games, do worksheets together, practice tests and watch videos and talk about them to keep the lessons varied.
