Hi, I'm KL! I'm an instructor and tutor with 8+ years of classroom experience teaching English, literature, poetry, fiction, creative writing, essay, and rhetoric at Johns Hopkins and elsewhere. I’ve tutored in university writing centers, working 1:1 with students on creative writing, academic essays, personal essays, and research skills. I have 15 years' experience as a copy editor and published writer in the arts, health sciences, and college prep. In fact, I edited several editions of SparkNotes' No Fear Shakespeare.

I also have experience in medical education – both clinical and communication skills – as well as in financial technology at competitive firms such as JPMorgan Chase. For those seeking guidance with personal statements, professional communications, or interview prep I bring a blend of academic methodologies and corporate savvy.

I hold an MFA in Poetry from the highly selective Johns Hopkins Writing Seminars, an MA in Humanities, and a BA in English Literature. I've worked with learners from high school to med school to corporate America to improve writing and critical thinking skills and communicate with more confidence. I bring empathy and excellence to 1:1 tutoring; sessions are always tailored to specific goals and centered on actionable feedback.

I offer one-on-one tutoring in a variety of subjects as well as detailed assignment-specific feedback. Uncertain about an assignment? I'll review it with you or your child before it’s submitted for a grade. We'll work together to ensure you're presenting your best effort.

I believe in creating safe, inclusive environments. My tutoring and professional services are safe spaces for members of the LBGTQ community and for individuals with disabilities.

PhD Personal Statement

My daughter recently met with KL, regarding her personal statement and the experience was extremely positive and productive. KL took her time to thoroughly review her academic background, research experiences, clinical work and long term goals in pediatric clinical neuropsychology. We were especially impressed by her thoughtful approach and insight. The meeting provided valuable direction and clarity regarding her personal statement, statement of purpose and overall application strategy. Overall we felt the session went exceptionally well and was pleased with the guidance and professionalism provided.
