Hi there, I'm KL! I'm an instructor and tutor with 8+ years of classroom experience teaching English, literature, poetry, fiction, creative writing, essay, and rhetoric at Johns Hopkins and other universities. During that time, I tutored in university writing centers, working 1:1 with students on creative writing, academic essays, personal essays, and research skills. I also have 15 years' experience as a copy editor and published writer in the arts, health sciences, and college prep. In fact, I edited several editions of SparkNotes' No Fear Shakespeare, which makes Shakespeare's challenging yet rewarding plays accessible to young, modern readers.

I'm passionate about connecting people to knowledge in ways that inspire — which means understanding each student as a unique individual and identifying ways for them to shine. I hold an MFA in Poetry from the highly selective Johns Hopkins Writing Seminars, an MA in Humanities, and a BA in English Literature, and have taught at every stage of my career. I've worked with learners from high school to med school to improve writing and critical thinking skills and communicate with more confidence. I bring empathy and excellence to 1:1 tutoring; sessions are always tailored to specific goals and centered on enthusiastic support and actionable feedback.

I offer one-on-one tutoring in a variety of subjects as well as detailed assignment-specific feedback. Uncertain about an assignment? I'll review it with you or your child before you submit it for a grade. We'll work together to ensure you're presenting your best effort. My role is to support and celebrate your learning journey so that you can succeed.
