Greetings! I'm Dr. Ashton. I'm an experienced teacher and tutor with more than a decade in the classroom and more than two years as a tutor. I'm a historian specializing in US History, but I am happy and more than capable of helping you out in any historical subfield, as well as in economics or government/poly sci. I'm also an experienced professional editor, and can help you improve your writing!
I have a PhD in History from Johns Hopkins University, and before that studied and worked in arts management (Masters degrees in Business Administration and Arts Administration--yes, I was a lifelong student!). More important, I've been called a "dynamic" classroom teacher and have been helping students succeed in AP US History, US History, World History (9th grade), AP European History, and economics for years now (I even teach an elective in the history of Black American music at my school). I switched to secondary school teaching years ago and have never looked back.
As a tutor, I will help you succeed at your own pace by using real-world examples and plenty of primary sources. I want you to practice and provide a voice to bounce ideas off of with the ultimate goals of: 1) locking in your knowledge of the material, and 2) building your confidence in and mastery of the materials and language of the subject. I will respond to you quickly and will be flexible with scheduling. I look forward to hearing from you; feel free to contact me with questions or to schedule a lesson!
