Looking for a well-rounded, experienced tutor who has the academic background, life experience and personality to help you meet your goals? Then look no further. An honors graduate in Political Science at Western Maryland College, I entered the work force and gained a variety of training and teaching experience, including becoming a certified K-12 teacher, a technology trainer for Lucent Technologies and eventually a supervisor and trainer at the National Security Agency. Concurrently, I was an Army Reserve Officer, in charge of taking care of and training the soldiers under me for their military careers. Along the way, I completed my Master’s degree in IT and Security Systems from Johns Hopkins University. Most recently, I am an Adjunct Professor at Towson University, teaching Undergraduate courses in NET+ and SEC+ Proficiency.
How does all this make me the tutor of choice? Throughout my career, I was highly successful in being able to take complicated subjects and show students how to comprehend and understand the material in a way that fit THEIR learning style! I pride myself in showing my students the WHY behind the knowledge. For my students, having an educational goal is important, but knowing how what you are learning can contribute to your overall success is a very powerful tool.
My teaching style is to get you to understand the material and be confident in your knowledge of it enough to teach a peer. The military taught me that a philosophy of “Train the Trainer”, where the student knows the course material well enough to show a peer, is a proven why to build knowledge, confidence and overall build a better student. As a tutor, I will encourage you to learn the material not just to reach your educational goals (testing as an example), but to know the subject well enough to pass along the knowledge.
