Hi! My name is Jacob S. I’m a Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering student at Johns Hopkins and an NCAA wrestler. I scored a 1570 on the SAT, a perfect 1520 on the PSAT, and a 34 on the ACT.
My approach to tutoring is very structured but very personalized. I don’t believe in just running through endless practice problems, but rather I focus on making sure students understand what they’re doing and can explain their thought process. I focus on helping students understand the SAT, the types of questions, the concepts and rules that are tested, and how to best strategize for the test.
I believe that engagement and internal motivation are the true keys behind success in test preparation, and that’s a primary piece that I believe many tutors miss out on. I focus on encouraging my students, fostering a positive relationship, and ensuring that they feel rewarded and accomplished as they improve.
I’ve tutored students through STAR Reading, mentored students for years as a camp counselor, and am the head of the local branch of NEXTGEN, a community service organization that holds programs and camps for local high schoolers.
My goal is for students not just to score higher but to feel in control and confident. I have a genuine passion for teaching and helping others, and I have hopes of becoming a professor in the future. I truly enjoy working with students and supporting them through the learning process.
Feel free to reach out with any questions, goals, or concerns you may have. I’m always happy to talk and would love the opportunity to work together.
