Hi, I'm Erik, a PhD physicist with a passion for space science. I approach physics with a uniquely creative framework which involves breaking down a problem or concept into recognizable pieces, and then working to understand how the pieces fit together to form the problem at hand. In my own learning, I have found that at first glace many problems can seem impossible to solve, but by tracing backwards to basic concepts and assumptions I can create a solution out of what I already know. Applying this process to tutoring not only helps students achieve their short-term learning and homework goals, but also encourages long-term learning and confidence in the subject.
I have three years of undergraduate physics tutoring experience where I worked with students individually and in groups to tackle homework questions, test preparation, and lab report write-ups. I have worked with students of many different levels and abilities, and I am especially familiar with teaching physics to biology and chemistry majors, in which physics is a required class but can be intensely frustrating for the student.
Every student is different, and my personal philosophy is that learning happens best when a tutor is personable, encouraging, and adaptable to each student. I try to foster an environment where a student feels comfortable to express confusion, make mistakes, and ask for changes in tutoring methods.
