I am a PhD candidate (ABD) in History at the University of Chicago, where my work focuses on medieval Europe and the history of ideas. I have taught college courses in medieval and European history many times, leading seminars, grading papers, and helping students who were brand new to college-level reading and writing. Outside the university, I have also worked with high school students on history, writing, and critical thinking.
When I tutor, my first goal is to make the subject feel less mysterious and more manageable. In history, that often means slowing down enough to show how to read a primary source, how to pick out what really matters, and how to turn that into a clear argument instead of a summary. I spend a lot of time on planning and structure, talking through outlines and thesis statements together, then walking students through revisions so they can see their own writing improve on the page.
I work well with students who are anxious about writing, students who are serious and ambitious, and students who feel lost and need someone patient to walk through the process with them. I tutor AP and college-level history, general humanities, and academic writing. Sessions are relaxed but focused, and I always try to leave students with concrete next steps so they know exactly what to do between meetings.
