I have been playing violin for 17 years, starting at the age of six. I pursued violin lessons throughout my public schooling and into adulthood, serving as concertmistress of my elementary, middle, and high school orchestras, as well as the New Jersey Regional and All-State Orchestras for three years in middle and high school. I also grew my love for chamber music in the Ann Newman Quartet at the Settlement School of Music under the instruction of Sid Curtiss. I recently graduated from Amherst College where I was concertmistress of the Amherst Symphony Orchestra for three years and played in various chamber groups, at times working with the Juilliard Quartet, Ray Chen, and other renowned musicians. Additionally, I had the opportunity to take Jazz Music Theory and Improvisation, which opened up a completely different, expansive world of music experience and expertise. I concluded my college music career with a concerto performance with our orchestra, and I currently maintain my skills by serving as assistant concertmistress of the Baltimore Philharmonia Orchestra as well as playing wedding services as part of the Sonic String Ensemble.
I have tutored my peers in music, math, and English subjects all through K-12, and I continued to serve as teaching assistant for these subjects in college. I do online tutoring currently. I also am able to help in both English and Chinese, as I grew up in a Chinese-speaking household and have conversational level skill in Mandarin Chinese. Students will receive an accurate, detailed lesson from me every time.
Music has been my love for my entire life! I started piano at age 2, then switched to violin just a few years later. My music repertoire and theory knowledge has grown vastly over the years. Music inspires wonder, discipline, and fun for me, and I keep that dynamic when tutoring others in the subject.
